Default P0441

I’m new to this site, i’ve been lurking in the background reading along for about a year now and I finally surrendered to my 2001 Lexus LS 430 throwing a continual trouble code:
Common Symptoms and
Problems
You may experience these symptoms while
driving from this trouble code (P0441):
Here are a few common problems that can
trigger this trouble code (P0441):
EVAP purge solenoid failure
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) failure
Wiring issue

This is what I’m getting and I have replaced every one of the suggested repairs and check the wiring. Quite often there is a strong smell of raw fuel both inside and out of my car. My car seems to have a bit of a difficult time starting after I fuel up. It takes two times and the gas pedal to the floor to actually get it to start. It’s now got a strange humming sound coming from the engine, similar to the sound my other car made when it was low on power steering fluid. All levels are where they’re supposed to be, battery is less than a year old, and I can’t figure out what’s going on. It’s also hesitated at accelerating when I’ve taken off at a stoplight a few times. I’m hoping someone out there might guide me as to what to do next. I love this car I believe I should be able to get more than 180,000 miles out of it.

I suspect you smell raw fuel at the rear of the car. The smell of raw fuel at the rear, plus an EVAP system code means you should check the fuel components at the rear of the car: fuel tank, filler hose (77213-50020), check valve and gasket (77177-33010 and 77390-50020) at the top of the fuel tank, at 20+ years of age, check valve develops leaks/cracks. To replace the check valve and its gasket, you need to cut into the floor under rear seat center or drop the fuel tank.

With that evap code, obviously check all of the evap components (charcoal canister, solenoids and valves, etc) for leaks. Maybe get a smoke machine and smoke out the fuel tank, and use Techstream to activate the various evap solenoids and see if you can see smoke.

If you smell fuel at front of car, check all hoses very carefully for very small cracks, and check your fuel pulsation dampers.

With your difficulty starting plus hesitation on acceleration, sounds like your fuel filter and/or fuel pump should also be checked.
