Code C2610 - Replace ECM or update?
2007 LS460L with 163k miles, runs about as good as it should at the miles it has on it. However roughly 3 months ago or so, I got the vsc/engine lights. I have a non registered version of Techstream and the cable, so I ran the codes, all that came up was C2610. Reset it, keeps coming back like clockwork after a drive or two.
Pulled out the ECM, all looked good including wiring harnesses no corrosion whatsoever. Battery tested, seems okay at proper voltage and is charging okay. No temperature issues with overheating at all.
All signs point to a possible replacement of ECM, so I have started looking online and they run about 300. But I did notice in Techstream, that when the code comes up, there is a link for an update on the module and have read on other Lexus models that updates can sometimes adjust the issues in the ECM.
Before purchasing a reconditioned ECM, would it be worth it, to buy the 2 day Techstream and does that even allow you access to the updates? Im thinking for 60 bucks or so, what do i have to lose at this point. Other option would be dealer and have them look at it, but been down that road before with other vehicles, and its a crap shoot sometimes and you start throwing money at stuff to get that light off and then its not even worth it at that point.
Anybody got any ideas or have seen this come up before? Thanks!
Definition C2610
Shows as ECM/PCM Engine Off Timer Performance,
It means there is a malfunction in the engine control module (ECM) or powertrain control module (PCM) regarding an inability to identify the state of an engine. More specifically, it points to not being able to detect the length of time in which the engine has been turned off. Here are some common triggers of the error code P2610:

Techstream is a tool. Toyota/Lexus is the provider of updates. Suggestion, contact both Lexus and Toyota dealers for cost of update to ECM. You may find Toyota less expensive. The code keeps returning because the cause is still occurring. I believe that they are two separate issues. You may be able to get the problem diagnosed without doing an update. How to do this for cheap, yourself, I don't know.
