Default Transmission fluid drain and fill

Transmission fluid drain and fill at 103K or leave it alone? It’s a 06, so WS fluid.

I don't think it would hurt to do a drain and fill. I did 6 of them and changed the filter, all between 135-145K.

Change it. There's no such thing as lifetime fluid.

If you are going to do Drain and Fills (and I agree they are a good idea) do at least 3 of them, I think with 6 of them like nvwls did you are about 90 percent clean fluid. Someone did a calculation of the percentage "clean" with each drain and fill in a series - its on here somewhere. I think with 3 you are around 40-50 percent clean, but I may be wrong, Each one drains about 3 quarts if you do it with the front end on ramps, which is what I did.

I got three different quotes.

1st one is form the place where the LS always went for service. $750 full flush. 16qt or something.

2nd is local dealer asking $170 but I have to sign a waiver or something.

3rd out of state, NC, LS’s new home asking $330.

Option 1 is def a NO go...
Every drop of fluid inside the transmission is just over 6.3 quarts.

Yeah mate most of the fluid is in the torque converter , do the flush that way ALL of the fluid is changed , for instance my 2002 LS430 holds about 9 or so litres and about 7 of that is in the torque converter .
I always buy 3 x 4 litre packs and keep on going till the fluid coming out is the same colour as the fluid going in .

The solution to pollution is dilution. Your old fluid is pollution and by draining and refilling through several cycles, eventually the old fluid will be just a small quantity left in your system.

I'd say drain and fill, do not flush.

So this has been discussed on other threads, but what about the "lifetime" fluid? I asked about it again recently and was told 430's were never supposed to have their tranny fluid changed.

My GX460 has the Toyota WS "lifetime fluid." It was so dark when I drained it a few years ago. Could I leave it in there? Sure, absolutely. Will there be any problems with leaving it? Probably not. For me though, it's the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the fluid is fresh.

A case of fluid is cheap and getting a fluid pump makes the job go so easy. The GX was simple because there is enough room to get under it. The LS will require you to have a lift or put the whole car on jackstands so you can easily get to the transmission.

Just a few pics from the GX460 drain and fill. My LS will be up when the weather cools down a bit.

"Lifetime" fluid is a marketing ploy. They say it doesn't need to be changed so they don't have to include it in the maintenance costs. That lowers the "total cost of ownership" which is another ploy.
If you never change the fluid it will in fact be lifetime fluid as it will last until the transmission fails at a much lower mileage than one that's been serviced.
As a note of reference the Toyota T-IV fluid is considered a lifetime fluid in a Mini Cooper that has the Aisin transmission for the same reasons.

Lifetime compared to human life or fluid life?

From my experience, just 30k miles is enough to complete the lifetime of transmission fluid.

I desperately need a fill adapter for my Mityvac. There's not much room next to the ATF fill hole.
They sell a Toyota specific part which screws into the fill hole but it looks too big to work on a 430.

Can't you get a different adapter that fits where the drain plug goes and pump it into the overflow tube?

That's a thought...
The Mityvac hose might simply slide into the tube without any additional adapter. The tube is removable with a 6mm hex so prob safe to assume the ID is very close to 6mm.
The smallest hose included with the Mityvac is .23" OD aka 5.84mm.
