Under-mirror Lights & General Questions
Brand new owner here. 2001 with Euro-tuned Sport Suspension. Love the car. Amazing refinement and handling. I need to remind myself often that it's 20 years old.
Anyway, I was trying to fix the steering wheel tilt motor, which was not working when I bought the car. The plan was to manually set the tilt where it was OK for me, then put it back together and leave it alone. To my surprise, the tilt started working just after I put everything back together. Strange. That night, as I unlocked the driver's side door manually with the valet key (main electronic key is busted) I noticed that the mirror puddle lights came on for the first time. I guess this had something to do with the battery being disconnected and reconnected. Interestingly, that is the only time since that I've seen them come on, and every other time I've unlocked and opened the door, the dome light comes on, the under door light, but not the under mirror, "puddle" lights. Is this a dealer setting? When should those lights come on? Does this have anything to do with not using the electronic key? Any insight would be much appreciated.

If I then unlock by touching the drivers door handle, they stay on until I get in and close the door.
At that point the puddle lights go out, but the interior lights stay on for a little while or until I start the engine.
The under door lights ONLY come on when the door is open and it's dark outside.
If you don't have the Smartkey, I assume that the puddle lights would only come on when you hit the unlock button on the remote but they may also be activated by the key in the door.
