I am trying to figure out if it’s possible to swap out the nav screen with the climate control for the non-nav style climate control? I’d like to install an aftermarket double din stereo and totally bypass all of the ML equipment in lieu of all aftermarket speakers, amplifiers and wiring. I don’t like the idea of losing all of the hard button controls for the climate so I’m hoping someone knows if this swap can be done?

Yes. With effort and cost for which you may wish to determine whether worthwhile.

It's been discussed a few times, but the cost overrides the desire to swap out. Why not just buy one that isn't outfitted with navigation already if you have your own gear? I'm sure you can find one without, and it will probably come closer to your price range without that packaged in since it's quite pricey from the factory to include it.
I did a bunch of searching on the forums before I asked the question but I didn’t come across that info. Thank you for pointing me to it. I figured a car of this caliber would likely have different wiring harnesses from level to level. I’ve got an 04 Ultra Luxury package and couldn’t get the CD changer working after the previous owner installed a Bluetooth adapter. After completely tearing the unit apart 3 times I tried disconnecting the Bluetooth before reassembly and testing. It was a success and everything functions great. I would prefer to just keep the ML sound system but when listening to FM it sounds pretty terrible but with CDs it sounds phenomenal! No need to swap out anything.
Could probably have the CD changer rebuilt or repaired. I just had my dash apart to install a GROM Vline VL2, and found out that my CD changer was repaired by a local shop prior to me owning it.
