Default Side window shade hooks replacement

After much searching for the little hooks that hold the side sunshade to the top of the side window,
Ive finally taken the initiative and im have the little buggers manufactured by a 3D printer in delrin resin.
They are scanning one that i removed and im having 6 produced. I refuse to pay almost $200 per side for the whole window bezel
to do fix a $2 part. These will never break. Im sure there are many of you with the same issue.
When theyre done ill match the color, paint em and drill for the screws.
These will be an exact duplicate of the stock hook. If this works I am completely comfortable being a hero. lol

Many recent vehicles manufactured by Toyota have pull-up rear side window shades with inexpensive easily replaceable hooks that snap into slots at the top of the window frames. I wonder if any of those hooks could be adapted for use in the LS430. Some of the models that have them: Lexus RX, ES. Toyota Highlander, Sienna, Sequoia.

ive done exhaustive research on this subject and have tried comparing all other toyota, lexus, and other brands such as bmw, mercedes and nothing would work barring extensive modifications. if this project is successful i will make it available to the forum. BTW these do not snap in they are screwed in via the inside top of the bezel and reinforced with a small metal bracket.

Well if anyone else wants to try adapting one of these other window shade hooks to the LS430 UL, I suggest trying Toyota shade hook part number 65988-08022 which sells online for less than $4. One would have to cut/grind/Dremel off the top portion of the hook that curls around and snaps into the window frame slots on these other models and then drill a hole to attach them to the LS430 door frame garnish.

So that is not the 2 hooks that are at the top of the garnish that is the handle attached to the shade itself to lift the shade in place.

No, it's the hook. Google the part number.

Default update:

I just recieved my completed 3d printed sunshade hooks. All i need to do is drill holes for the screws and paint to match my interior.
Here they are. The grey one is the copy. Thoughts?

That looks splendid, how much were you charged to 3D print those? I've been hunting for these and also just came to the realization that I would need to buy the entire trim piece also.

Those are looking quite Nice! I have been looking high and low for an alternative as you did from other Toyotas/Lexuses as well.
Glad to see you are working on a solution. Count me In when these go on Sale. You got my support!

Once the initial scan was done all i have to do is order copies. I do need to tell you that this is in a testing stage. i want to see how well they hold up
to use. And you would have to drill the holes for the screws. Definitely a small diy project

Do you have the design to share so I can give it to a local print shop that does do 3D printing.

THANKS SO MUCH!!
