Takes about 30 min a side going slow and parts are $1050 each side if you want OE ones

Because honestly all the parts for these cars are very expensive. Freaking headlights are $400 and OE parts are triple what a high end domestic car will run you, I knew this going in but still.

Yeah I just added an E60 5 series to my stable yesterday (got it for a deal I couldn't pass up) and I'm pleasantly surprised how affordable even the OE parts are compared to our Japanese boats. I mean stuff also breaks more on the Bimmers, so.. Love the car though. Totally different animal than the LS

I did my driver’s door actuator and I guess I’m pretty slow - took me about two hours. Steep learning curve so the next one should be quicker 😉. You might want to do what I did and check with ActuatorsPlus. He rebuilds and guarantees his actuators for a fraction of new OEM cost. It worked for me 👍

It's such a myth that German cars are expensive for parts, and Japanese and American are cheap. My wife's GM, it's alternator is made in USA by Denso and around $600.

With German again I love the transparency where this part is OE in a BMW box. This part is the same, OEM, in a Continental box. Up to you which you want.

Look up a ABS sensor, a BMW 7 is like $100 for OE. A LS430 is almost $400. Look up a brake wear sensor wire, maybe $35 v. $130. To me, it's the business model. Like a cheap laser printer whose toner costs a fortune, that's how revenue is made under one model. Lexus is that. I mean the car had 5k factory recommended service!

Sure, but the BMW will constantly break and annoy or cost a hell of a lot more in labor. Speaking of there is a 7 series at my shop right now with a no start and can bus failure, needs a new anti-theft ECU and has a sea of other small problems too. About 100k less miles than my car too

I guess you talk about the whole unit. I'm looking at these tutorials and while it looks complicated, probably doable.

Yes, the small motor is 5 bucks, but care must be taken with taking apart the old actuator and placing the new motor in SECURELY so that there are no additional issues with noise or operation. You do save money on the parts. Still requires a degree of labor and carefully placing all the screws and bolts where they belong. Doable, and cost effective if doing it yourself. Most importantly....take your time.

Be ready to buy rebuilt units if you break something in there too, it's quite fragile

Have you done the battery test? If not, do that first.

I just ended up replacing my battery in less than 2 years and the previous one needed to be replaced in less than 2 years too. Short drives. I am going to put this one on trickle charger now.

Yes, short drives can shorten battery life. I'm probably lucky to get closer to 3 years out of my last 3 batteries. I've seen my alternator putting out 13.4 volts occasionally which is not optimum I already have my battery set up for a CTEK battery maintainer, but since I drive daily, I don't bother using it. I just know that when I get close to 2 1/2 years of battery usage it will be time for replacement soon.
