Default Re-searching for a 430

For about a year and a half back in 2014, I owned a 2006 LS 430 UL and were quite active in this forum. Wonderful car, but I had to sell it later due to some personal issues. Went through a few cars already but I still miss the level of quietness and comfortability of the 430. Fast forward to the end of 2019, I'm now searching again for a 430.

I'm still looking for either 2005 or 2006 with Adaptive Cruise Control, but NOT with Air Suspension because looks like it would fail around 100K miles and is quite expensive to replace. If memory serves, I believe I need to find one with Custom Luxury Package. I remember someone wrote a pretty intensive document summarizing what to look for in each Package. If you know what I am talking about and still have a copy, please share with me. Thanks

What is the price point I should look at, assuming for a 2006 at 100K - 120K miles and can you guys remind me of the common issues? For a 14-year-old car, what level of maintenance am I looking at? I remember mine had the passenger window motor failed so I couldn't roll it up and down, and it was at around 100K miles. Is it crazy now to get one at 150K miles or even 180K miles?

Found this one but I think it is pretty overpriced. In 2014 I bought my car at around 85K miles for $18.5K. Looks like it's a UL though. What do you think?

Be prepared to pay 9k-12k for the right LS. Use all your resources: ebay, craigslist, autotrader, cargurus etc. Jusst keep watching for the right LS. Verify carfax, service (oil changes regularly, timing belt/water pump etc), tires, battery, brakes, body, paint...... maybe get an inspection wherever it is...well worth it. Expand your search area...nationwide. Good luck.

TMV figures are based on the actual sales of other cars of its kind in your region and then adjusted for further accuracy (mileage, condition, and etc.) using calculations designed by the mathematicians at Edmunds.com. https://www.edmunds.com/tmv.html

Recently a 27,500 mile 2004 LS 430 reportedly sold at $8500 (original ask was $11,000). Appears new owner that of car is now re-offering the car at $30,000 and apparently claiming has owned it since new, As you know, people are free to ask or pay whatever price they may. https://www.edmunds.com/tmv.html
But, the below quote, by all empirical evidence, seems to be right on the money:

If a seller is able to find someone to overpay for their car, it still doesn't change the value of your car !

A used LS430 in good condition is worth $ 6,000 to $8,000 .... which is what I expect to get for mine.

Hope no one is offended !

Finding one with the Custom Luxury (CL) package can be very tough as it seems to be the rarest of the higher optioned cars. The CL option included a better trimmed interior, power door closers, laminated side glass, headlight washers, and dynamic laser cruise.

Mileage and (obviously) condition dictate pricing. The UL in the link has about the right asking price for a dealer given its mileage. Also, prices in CA seem to be a bit higher than here in the East. Figure on paying $8000 to $10,000 for one in the mileage range you are seeking.

Big difference between a beat LS430 with mediocre maintenance, lots of dings, and a worn interior, and a cream puff car that has been garaged and well maintained. The really nice ones are hard to find but beaters are plentiful at this point. Pay a little more and get a super reliable luxury car. Pay less and perhaps get a rolling money pit.

Amazingly still get great support from people in this forum. Thanks a lot.

What level of maintenance is expected for this car at 150K miles? I figure 150K miles would be more realistic number to find car with.

What do you do if something doesn't work?
1. Go to dealer
2. Go to an independent mechanic
3. DIY

Powertrain is very solids but there are things that can go wrong like any used car. Some of the things, e.g. door actuator, can be crazy expensive to fix at the dealer.

nice CL in Boise, dark blue ecru interior, too far for me to go especially in December. about 8 thousand dollars and I think would be a good deal. around 100,000 miles I think. It is in Nampa Idaho I believe. also looking at a CL in Arlington Texas (much closer to me) but it has many more miles and it is purple (black cherry pearl) also 8 thousand dollars. also like a UL in Oklahoma City for about 10,000 but like the Arlington car has an accident in its history.

The 2006 Lexus LS 430 comes in just one trim level ($56,525), and it's loaded with luxury and convenience features. Among them: a power moonroof with auto open/close, a power rear sunshade, and lighted rear-seat vanity mirrors. Leather-trimmed upholstery comes standard, of course.

Several leather upgrades are available, however, including Ecru ($1,460), Black Semi-Aniline ($2,100) and Saddle Comfort Nappa ($2,100); all three require the purchase of an additional upgrade package, and Saddle Comfort Nappa is restricted to models painted Black Onyx or Flint Mica.

The Premium Package ($1,390) adds climate-controlled front seats with fans that circulate heated or chilled air, heated rear seats, and sonar-based Intuitive Parking Assist.

The Modern Luxury Package ($4,980) bundles a Mark Levinson audio system, navigation system, reversing camera, Bluetooth communications technology, climate controlled front seats, heated rear seats, and Intuitive Parking Assist.

The Custom Luxury Selection ($5,935) includes the Mark Levinson audio, navigation system, rear backup camera, Bluetooth, Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, Intuitive Parking Assist, climate-controlled front seats, rear seat heaters, headlamp washers, and power door closers.

The Ultra Luxury Selection ($11,320) features all that plus Adaptive Variable Air Suspension, SmartAccess keyless entry and ignition, and a number of amenities for rear seat passengers, including: sunshades for the rear passenger doors, a rear-seat adjuster with memory, climate-controlled rear seats with a massage feature, and a rear air conditioner with optical deodorizer. The Custom Luxury and Ultra Luxury packages can be paired with the Pre-Collision Safety System, in which case Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is substituted for the laser system.

The Sport Package ($220) combines a handling-tuned suspension with 18-inch wheels and summer tires. The same package with chromed wheels costs a bit more ($1,920).

The LS 430 comes with a 278-horsepower 4.3-liter aluminum V8 and a six-speed automatic transmission. (The same engine was rated 290 horsepower last year, which might lead some consumers to wonder how Lexus let those 12 horses get away. What has in fact happened is that the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, has revised its test procedures for horsepower and torque, and as a result some of the numbers are coming out lower this year. So in fact all the ponies are still in the stable; but the racing commission is counting them differently. There is no change in performance over last year's model as it's the same.)

looking at ads/pics is sometimes tough but this is what I look for.
UL has rear window screens that others don't plus rear console is different and panel in front of shifter has three switches for air suspension.
CL (like UL) has headlight washers that are small square patches below the headlights.
ML has nav but I don't think it has headlight washers.
CL and UL can have laser cruise control or radar PCS is a clear plastic plate at the front L emblem.

I would just look especially for Lexus dealer cars in warm climates. Get a boatload of pictures and a solid service history and be patient then fly in drive it back on a road trip. I have had two to 200k each they never really broke.

Buy a sunbelt car if possible. Big difference in ongoing longevity if you buy a car that has not been driven thru winters of ice, snow, sand, salt, etc.
