Default Interesting twist on C1336 error - advice needed

First, a bit of background. When I first got the car it was throwing errors for the bank 2 VVT solenoid. I replaced that and cleared codes and all was well. More recenltly, the car threw a code for the bank 1 VVT solenoid. I replced that one, cleared codes and a few seconds later was greeted by the VSC Off warning, which was connected to C1336 - Zero Point Calibration of Decelration Sensor Undone. I did the thing where you turn the ignition on and short the Ts and CG. The VSC Off light went out and all the warnings were cleared. Everything seemed to work properly. My question is this: I was on an incline when I replaced the VVT solenoid and the error popped up when I was moving, also on an incline. Do I need to do the step where I reset the zero? Or should I be OK?

In Techstream, you need to do the Reset Memory function (which is an inaccurate name for only CLEARING, not resetting, the zero point memory), follow the on-screen prompts, and then afterwards, you need to do the Test Mode function (which is an inaccurate name for initializing and setting the zero point memory). This prompts you to have the steering wheel straight ahead, car on level surface, engine OFF, IG ON. If you do not do the Test Mode after doing Reset Memory, you will get C1336.

The same information applies when you do the Reset Memory via the OBD2 port - afterwards, you need to do the equivalent of Test Mode afterwards.

Thanks for teh feedback. I thought I was missing a step. I noticed that the VSC kicked in when it shouldn't have before I went back and did both steps, presumably because it didn't know where the zero was. I found out that my XPros device has both functions built in (reset memory and test mode), so I never had to use the paper clip approach. It actually says on screen to make sure the vehicle is on level ground and so forth.

System works properly after doing ths now.
