Unhappy Steering wheel tilt/telescope problem

I just bought a 2005 LS430 (w/navigation) with 85K on it, and I've already fixed two out of three problems it had: the trunk latch and the driver-side door lock. The solution to the third problem continues to elude me: The steering wheel won't tilt or telescope. It doesn't make any noise at all when I move the button on the column, which suggests to me that it may be a fuse. It also seems odd to me that both the tilt AND telescope functions would be inoperative, further suggesting a fuse. Before I tear into it to replace the motors, I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a fuse or any other on/off button associated with this function.

Red face Thank you!

Thank you; that was very helpful. I pulled the panel and discovered that the fuse was missing entirely. I replaced it, and at least now I can hear the motors trying to work, but still no joy. I can see that the steering wheel is trying to telescope, but it appears to be stuck. When I try to tilt, I hear a click, so we're hung in both tilt and telescope.

Now all I need to do is find the instructions for replacing the tilt and telescope motors!

Ok

I bought my LS430 with the problem of steering is not moving inside out, however it moves up-down freely,
and when I attempt to move it in or out it moves just a little bit and gives me squeaking noise.
It turned out at the motor was replaced but whoever did that didn't care about the alignment.
Probably you have the same issue, the area is very tight and limited to work on, needs time and petiance for the job, there's an old man who did review on YouTube for that.
However, I think you should at first remove the up down motor as a start and test the motor operation while it's out of the steering shaft, if it moves freely than you're good and it's an alignment issue.
If the motor doesn't move than you have a defected motor and you need to replace.
Be careful with the alignment thing, it took me a whole day to do it right !!

All the best.

Can't believe I watched that whole video. A complicated job for me that I wouldn't think of doing and I'm known for taking a chance.

I have both tilt and telescope failed since the first day I got my 03. Was hope it is the fuse but it isn't. Have been driving it like this for few years. I do want to fix the tilt as the minimal but too lazy... Also not 100% sure the part numbers since I heard there are different numbers for different years.
