Many thanks for these installation guidelines. 🙏 You guys are true masters & these are godsends. I am planning to install the Teyes head unit myself this weekend & have a professional install the backup camera (because I do not want to splice into the vehicles wires in the back & risk messing up, I will leave that up to the experts.)
If possible, I have several questions regarding installation:
-I will try to splice the camera wires to the wires on main black harness (red to red (pin3) & yellow to brown (pin 5)). For splicing, is this considered a 3-way or "T" splice? Also, I heard if you just use electrical tape, it might not be the best option because the heat from summer can cause the tape to melt a little, not sure though. I heard of liquid electrical tape & amalgamating tape. Which method did you guys use to splice? It can get blazing hot here in NY, so I just want to be extra cautious.
-for the red wire (from camera harness) connecting to red (pin 3 on black harness). There are (3) red wires coming from pin 3 from the black harness. Common sense says that when splicing the red to red (pin 3), use the 1 red out of the 3 that connects to the canbus unit. Is this correct? I just want to triple check.
-Did you have to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before installing the Teyes unit/ backup camera or is it required?
Okay sorry if i may confuse anyone & many thanks in advanced!!!

I used 3M black tape that I use at work, never had a issue with it. Use whatever you are comfortable with as long as it's quality and not cheap crap.
The way I splice wires is I take off a little insulation about 1/2" from the wire I'm splicing, wrap the new wire around the exposed area and solder.
You tap into pin 3 wire which is red and yes it splits into 3, so pick any one, it doesn't really matter since they all do same thing provide +12V.
It's always recommended to disconnect battery, that being said I didn't do it, but this is not my first time around car wiring.
Awesome, thank you both Holden53 & 70Chevelle & understood all!! I am learning a lot of ways to splice and secure, but as you mentioned as long as it not cheap...
Thanks for replying. I have the long wire, on the instructions it shows 2 wires going to the pins 3 and 5 on the connector that plugs in to Android. It also says I don't need to connect pin5 if there is a wire going to canbus, but I traced it and it's going back to Video input pin. I think I just need to splice the wires to pin 3 and pin 5. I'll mess around with it this weekend, just trying to get prepared.
Good Day,
My installation of Teyes headunit went well thanks to you and after 2 weeks all is well. I am planning to install the Sony upgraded backup camera soon.
I am confused & now somewhat nervous 😅 of what Teyes is saying and what you brought up in post #574 above.
Please see below top portion where Teyes is mentioning that we are not supposed to connect the "YELLOW LINE"
.
I wanted to ask if you know why Teyes is saying this & if you have had any sort of issues so far with you back up camera installed like you laid out exactly on your instruction sheets? I reached out to Teyes rep in australia via email & they said my splicing of the red/red & yellow/brown is correct, “but DO NOT connect to the canbus, otherwise you will backed 12VDC into the canbus and can damage it” & also on Teyes install page:****DO NOT CONNECT THE YELLOW WIRE TO G5 IF G5 IS CONNECTED TO THE CANBUS!!!
THIS WILL BACK FEED 12VDC INTO THE CANBUS AND DAMAGE IT
I think maybe they are saying is: don’t “Splice” the yellow to the brown because the brown (G5 is connected to canbus, meaning the harness, that connects to the 1 end of the canbus, already has the brown wire G5 pinned to it). But then again the yellow wire is part of the backup camera also, so not sure why they say to not connect it.
My question is what exactly the “yellow line” is Teyes talking about & what did the rep mean by “but DO NOT connect to the canbus, otherwise you will backed 12VDC into the canbus and can damage it”, & which wiring configuration would cause this “backed 12VDC into the canbus and can damage it”
I did reply again to Teyes, but no response today and their answers are very vague.
Kind of nervous now lol so I am turning off the screen while driving for now to reduce all the power that's going on in the head unit lol, but will still try to learn more about this, and every connection you laid out in your instruction manual makes total sense. It does not seem right to leave off that yellow line because that is part of the camera line.
Thanks in advanced!

Their instructions are generic. I believe it could for some other cars where camera view on the Teyes is triggered by the canbus, not the case on LS430
I tried running the reverse camera without the yellow wire spliced in, and it wasn't working at all.
I hope this helps.
Alright many thanks for the quick response!, I kind of thought of this because I saw old photos of their canbus unit on their website and it looks nothing like ours. I will proceed. 1 question, what did you do to your OEM backup camera? When you removed yours, how was the removal? Is it hooked up to the stock amplifier, or just unplug existing harness, or cut wires and cap them off?

Unplugged and removed, tap into the wires on the trunk lid. In my instructions it shows how to remove the trunk cover and get to the camera, after that 2 bolts holding it. it also shows which wires to tap into. There is a link to youtube video where you can order adapter that fits into same spot as original camera.
FYI I still haven't figured out how to mount the Sony camera, for now I'm using the one that comes with Teyes. Sony is bigger and mounts different.

Yes got it, & understood the (3) wire splicing connections needed under the trunk cover from you instructions.,
When you mean Sony mounts different, you mean only the physical mounting/ bracket? The wiring/ splicing should be exact same as the Teyes camera correct?

Wiring is the same, physically is different. I have one too, just haven't had time to mess with it.
been following all this and am looking at the teyes as well. the link to the different housing is dead. Any chance you have more info so i can search or a new link?
Hi everyone. I’ve been seeing mixed information - does your factory volume **** still work with these units? Which style canbus box did your unit come with?
I also noticed the harness comes with an OBD2 connector. Do we know what function it serves?
Thanks
