Default 03 LS430 - Replace Control Arm Bushings

Hello,

Does anyone have instructions on how to replace the lower control arm bushings? I know you need a press to push them out. I also know for the new ones they need to be installed in a certain orientation. Finally it’d be nice to have the torque specs.

thanks!

Search. This topic has been covered extensively here. Long story short, use newer bushings from a newer model Lexus that come in the sleeve already.

Start at post #181 and go forward. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...ng-repair.html

Are the IS bushings and brackets exactly the same as the LS430? If it’s not wont it alter the suspension geometry?

There might be a slight variance. Several people here have run them without complaints, so that is good enough for me. If you buy them off of eBay, be wary of ones coming from China that may be fake, even if they are in authentic-looking packaging.

Physical fitment between the IS and LS brackets appears to be similar. Worst case, a front-end alignment should resolve the minor dimensional differences. The key point is that the IS brackets are much cheaper that the LS brackets.

That said, I suspect that the materials used are designed for the lighter IS model, so the heavier LS will likely to shorten the lifespan of these IS brackets. Worse yet, imagine how these IS brackets will hold up on a heavier LS if you hit a curb or pot-hole going 40 MPH.

Good point, though I will add that the part number for the new bushings covers a wide range of Lexus models, the heaviest of which is the GS450h. The weight of the GS450h should be close to the weight of the LS430, so I wouldn't worry too much about degradation due to weight.

A quick check of Google shows the GS450h being about 200 pounds heavier than the LS430.

The IS bushings will more than likely be a firmer ride than the OEM bushings. I purchased my OEM bushings from a Lexus dealer on line for about $50 each. I had my Indy have them installed at a very reasonable price.

Thanks for the fact check... This addresses and nullifies my suspicions regarding the robustness of the IS brackets.

It's a pleasant surprise that something from Lexus that is actually cheaper AND better!

Thanks everyone for chiming in. Has anyone tried the FIGS bushings? Anyone had good luck with those? I know they are pretty expensive.

Do you have any photos or diagrams for the orientation of the notch on the bushing? I actually have the OEM bushings right now. I don't have a press and will farm it out to a shop.
Just want to give them good instructions.

You can look at the OEM bushings that are in there now and follow the same notch position. The shop had to work on getting the old bushings out while being careful not to bend the brackets. I kept the new bushings in my freezer and then the shops freezer up until the time of installation to ease the installation back into the brackets.

I have figs on my car. No complaints. I bought just the bushing and pressed it into my housing.
