Default Engine and Tranny Mounts - 06

was quoted by my indie shop $1300 for parts and labor !

Seems ludicrous....

Is it ?

Are after market mounts just as good ? Any guidance is appreciated

I bought the OE motor mounts and trans mount on eBay when there was a coupon (20%), and I have them in the basement. I told my indie last year that I would want it done eventually--my car was on the lift and he showed me (hard to see) and said your mounts are all fine (this was at 86k?). So in my mind I was thinking ok maybe 140k, not sure. We did not talk price, but if I'm not mistaken, the dealer is in the $1500 ballpark. So I would expect indie to be 1/2? Again I was thinking $500 tops labor but we did not discuss. Just me, I'd want to stick with original parts, and would only want an indie who let me supply them...

Shop around. See if there are any other shops in your area that can do it. Call a couple dealers as well to see how far off the independent shops are. Also, look up the parts and get an idea on what those would be. If you can find them cheaper somewhere then see if the shop will let you supply the parts to bring the price down.

If there is a potential issue with your mounts a great place to start is the rear, aka transmission, mount. It costs less than $100 and assuming you have the proper equipment to jack the car up and also support the trans the job is about as difficult as an oil change. You may be surprised how much effect replacing this one mount can have. Quite often replacing the trans mount will fix the issue and the 2 front mounts, which are much more labor intensive, can be left alone.

always cheapest for you to actually do the labor, but if youre incapable the 2nd cheapest way is to pay someone to install your parts in your comparabley equipped and insured shop to facilitate the quickest and safest install but if you dont have that either, then you gotta pay a shop to do it...but only have to pay by the minute for the overhead and skills you lack . Desperate mechanics result in stories u want to hear not say.

did you hear the one about the surgeon that operates at your house with your old lady as the nurse....be sure he supplies the replacment organs.

All mounts (OEM) done by my indie for 800. The car is smoother.

haha all true. That's why I am skeptical about (now I forget the website) where there are all awesome prices for things (even timing belt on our LS), where the mechanic comes to your house. It might be your mechanic or something like that. But what we could do, is to lookup the price from that website, and see if the indie can do it. But in my mind, there are so many jobs that are inconvenient when the vehicle cannot be lifted, and that's what someone coming to the house is faced with...
