Default Drl lights

I have a questions about the day time running Lights, ive seen a lot of confusion on here from a lot of write ups , How do the drl ,s affect the the high beams? isn't the DRL bulb a regular 168 bulb like the side markers? so if you wanted to change with a led what would the problem be?

Your high-beam light bulb serves a double-duty as the DRL, also. That is, when you are driving with the head-lights OFF, the LS430 turns on the High-beam light with reduced power to give you that yellowish glow.

Ok I see know I didn't understand how that worked , so you would not recommend replacing the 194 DRL bulb with a LED ?

I'm "Old School" and an OEM diehard, so I would not likely to recommend any "upgrades". That being said, the DRL bulb is the same high-beam 9005, not the tiny 194. If you want to replace the DRL (9005) with LED, please note that it will flicker due to the reduced voltage. However, there are work-around as presented in the link below...

RKW , thank you very much for that , I think I will stay away from those and leave alone , but you definitely know a lot more than I do , so one more question , I ordered two LED 9006 bulbs for the fog lights and was told there plug and play remove old bulb and plug in new , Is that safe to do ? no issues

I have not used LED fog lights personally, but I have seen many people on this forum who changed out their fog lights with LED with no issues.

I have been running LED fog lights over 4 years without any issue. As a matter fact the LED fog lights I bought 4 years ago still work. I really like the look of the LED fog lights compared to the originals.

The confusion MAY be because its different depending on the face-lift variations. For 2001-2003 models the DRL's are run off of 9006's inside the high-beams at low voltage. However there is a 194 bulb in the low beam area, but is only lit when the parking brake is activated during the Park gear selection.

The 194 bulb can be switched to LED it does not affect anything just the DRL bulb when switched to LED it needs a module to keep it from pulsing and you would loose your High Beam as mentioned above.

Let us know how they work out. Before and after pics would be great. If they turn out well, I might have to do the same.

I have LED fog lights and to be honest the light output is not great, just my honest opinion. I ran 5k Cree LED from OPT7. There was more light output with the halogen lol but I like the look with my OEM Celsior housing so I have it more for the look then functionality.

I️ got mine from a local auto store but I️ would check with amazon and whichever brand with good reviews and reasonable price just get that. Remember to get a resistor decoder relay so it wouldn’t flicker.
