i tried using those 9006 LED bulbs in my lights on my old dakota. they sucked. but i ended up with a different brand that i put in my Lexus and the output is amazing. i have pictures on my home computer that i can upload them if anyone wants to see what they look like. they definitely make a difference when driving at night.
on my 2005 that little 194 bulb that is in the high beam housing comes on when the parking lights are on and when driving with the low beams. i really don't understand the purpose of them. but i was messing around and had some extra led bulbs, so i threw them in there.

Things may change recently, but from my understanding, there is not one plug and play LED bulb that has better output than the standard incandescent bulb (in our case high beam is 9005, fog light is 9006). The only way to improve the output is by installing HIR bulb. LED may look better (whiter) and look brighter when one look at it, but the output may lack distance and/or scatter the lights everywhere. This can actually can be more dangerous for driving at night.
These are the bulbs I installed. I haven't had anyone flash me about the lights. And when driving, they are cut off below the headlight line. I'll get some pictures on my drive home from work.
As many other forum members have stated the 3rd gen LS uses the same 9005 bulbs for the high beams and daytime running lights. I would recommend getting the 9005 Xtreme Pro LED kit with the DRL LED Driver option which will allow the DRL to dim so that they aren't at full brightness as LED bulbs can't dim.
