I have a 2002 lexus ls430 UL with 160000 miles on it. I religiously have my car maintained to the highest level. Most of the highly sophisticated work is done by the Lexus Dealer. the rest is done by a great mechanic shop. I haven't driven on long trips on the freeway for some time. A couple of weeks ago, I kicked the gas pedal down in order to go into passing gear. the engine sputtered at 6000 rpm and didn't want to shift into the next higher gear. I tried this 2 more times and I felt some improvement.. I purchased some very high end injector cleaner. after a tankful of gas was consumed, I tried it again. considerable improvement, but not quite a clear shift. I am thinking maybe the plug wires or MAF might be the problem. Your thoughts please.

Check the connector which goes into camshaft sensor. Do you recall by any chance any previous dtc codes related to igniter, engine control system, or air/fuel intake?
Pull all of your coils and inspect for cracks in the boot casing. I bought my LS w/ 186,000 two weeks ago and am eliminating all issues or what can become potential issues. I discovered that all left bank coil packs were starting to get hairline cracks in them. You may have one potentially exposed, causing an intermittent issue under load.
Thanks very much for your responses. Because of your info, my local mechanic will be checking and confirming the problem based on your help.
Really appreciated.
Have your tech see if any codes are being written by the engine ECU. Just guessing here but maybe there is an issue with one of the camshaft position actuator valves which would show up under load/high rpm. These have been known to fail or go bad after 100k miles on some LS. There is one per bank on the engine, fortunately they are pretty easy to replace.
