Use the charging cable you currently have, purchase a 1 dollar USB/cigarette lighter adapter from the Dollar store, plug the adapter into the lighter socket and plug the Ipod into the cable. It will charge the ipod while you drive and you will no longer have to worry about keeping the Ipod charged. At the very least, you can use this as a stop gap until you get the unit repaired.
