Yeah that's a crap thread tbh. I'm in the process of doing the diff in my LS430, and so far I've only come to the assumption that LS430s come equipped with a viscous LSD, because I laid the thickest pair of railway tracks I'd ever seen when I left work the other day, with the diff stone cold, but with a warm diff it would only spin up one tyre. It also explains why I have erratic diff function in the wet. I exited a roundabout with one tyre going, then it did two and spun me right round. Regardless, I will be pulling the diff out and opening it up to conclusively tell you what these things come with.
If it is indeed a viscous LSD, I'd just have it sent away to be rebuilt. If its a conventional open diff, then you can just weld the spider gears up and turn it into a full locker

If you tear it apart please post some pics, i would only get the cusco welded diffs are not good for daily drivers and are dangerous to drive in the rain. The new ls460 came with a lsd maybe that would fit into our housing, i have no idea i am trying to just give possible solutions lol

Yeap I will definitely take photos of the rear end once its opened up. The diff looks super easy to remove compared to the likes of a Ford Falcon or Chevy SS/Holden Commodore where the entire subframe has to come out.
A Cusco LSD shouldn't throw any check lights because there's nothing electrical inside the diff. If anything it would throw less ABS-related check codes than an open diff because the wheels are turning at more similar speeds. Maybe.
I'd need an LS460 diff and a set of verniers on my bench to pull apart and measure things, but if the housings are the same then by rights it should be a go-er.
If its an open diff then it still doesn't explain the two dirty great black lines I left down the road for a good 100 feet

The signs are pointing closer to the fact that LS430s come with a viscous coupled LSD. I popped down to the local Toyota wrecking yard and they list UCF30 diffs as an LSD. I've checked Torsen, Quaife and Kaaz websites and none list a mechanical (or any other for that matter) LSD for an LS430, but more than enough for A,S, and X chassis
