fairly confident front end clunk indentified
Figured something was worn, sway bar links, etc. When a bump or pavement strip is hit just right, metallic clunk sound.
Indie took it for a spin, couple of laps, heard it, looked it over, pulled wheels and concluded whoever did the brakes did not put shims in, the sound is from the pads shifting, and the sound is never there when brakes applied.
Sure enough, I can reach in through the wheel and press the pad where the pin slides through, and feel an ever so slight amount of play. Watching YouTubes of folks installing pads, when they tap them in, they create the same resonating sound.
There is a CL thread

The shocker is the price of the shims, best I could find is $48 shipped......I probably will buy the kit, try them, and plan on using OEM when the time comes (selling dealer did the brake job with OEM), and going forward, be sure to transfer them with each job. From what I can see there are two per pad or 8 total--one that contacts the pistons, and the inner that contacts the back of the pad--I think only the inners come with an Akebono or Advics (Akebonos that were not worn came out, I'll check the old pads for the shims)....

Guess I thought the clunk would be something more costly. Maybe I'll live with it and simply wait until the brakes are worn and totally replace. But that could be 5 years and a whole lotta clunkin' goin' on

The noise in quote thread, isn't a clunk, and only happens when going from R to D. The clunk most of us have, will be the lower control arm bushings, known issues for Lexus, not just out LS.
Edit: But hey, if it fixes your issues, then congrats.

I think this clarifies it, as far as LCA sounds go. Again, my sound is not there when brakes are applied, it's when they are not applied. Common sense would say once the brakes are applied, the pistons are in, and the pads can no longer shift, at least the way that I look at it...

Yeah, actually you got me thinking (TY for that)......I have had my LCA bushings only, back in Jan., replaced, AND, I did have this sound prior to that work. Replaying it in my mind, I was hoping the sound would be gone with the new OEM LCA bushings, but I duplicated the sound on a local road leaving the shop. Guess I can't say 100% until I actually install the OEM shims and probably some quiet paste as well. But just being able to jiggle the pad ever so slightly through the wheel opening makes me think the indie was on the right track....
