Master Key Compatability across years
Hi there, I'm the new owner of a 2001 LS430 here in Australia. The previous owner gave me 2 master keys (3 button remote entry etc) although one was damaged beyond repair.
My eBay searches reveal plenty of refurbed 2002-04 keys yet I cannot find a 2001 key for love nor money.
My question is visually it matches the later year key ( HYQ12BZE ) is this compatible with the 2001 build year ?

The '04 - '06 HYQ12BZE key is not compatible with your '01 engine immobilizer.

There are many good sellers of Lexus keys on E-bay. I have had good luck with an outfit called 1010keys. After you purchase the keys (about $75.00 for 2 Denso three button remote keys), you send them a picture of your current key. They cut the keys and include programming instructions (if applicable) for your car. I have used them for a couple of Lexus vehicles with good results. Be sure you read their e-bay posting carefully as it contains alot of information.
You should also be able to obtain a key shell and transfer the damaged key electronics to a new shell. Very common.
