I think this is my first post in the LS forum (have been an ES guy until recently). I have tried searching, but have not found my situation mentioned and am hoping that someone can help out.
The problem: When my headlights are on the backlights behind my radio/hvac buttons and the shift indicator lights next to the shifter do not work for very long. They will come on for a few minutes then they will go off. The instrument panel and the backlight behind the lcd display still works (it's like the car thinks like it's daylight)
I am thinking the issue may be the light sensor on the dash, but I dont want to go throwing parts at the problem

Car is a 2003 LS430 I do not have nav or ML.
any help is appreciated
thanks
I am curious about this as well. My car is doing the same thing, except they wont come on for a while. After a bit of driving SOMETIMES they will pop back on if its having the problem. They work normal about 50% of the time. My car is also a 2003 non nav or ML.
I remember seeing a thread about this around here somewhere. As I recall, some saw success with replacing the rheostat, while others suspected a problem with a body ECU. There was some stipulation that it might be a light level sensor, but I don't think that would cause this.
