Default Radio Display Malfunction

I've read many threads about the LCD displays going bad on Lexus cars. Mine is bad also. I'm just curious if a cause has ever been determined. I'll have to get it fixed, but I'm just wondering if anyone ever found out that it was caused by something inparticular or just that they fail for no apparant reason.

I had a similar problem with my 2002 SC just yesterday, but only with the bass and treble display numbers. Surprisingly it fixed itself after I turned the **** all the way to the max and then went back to the normal setting. This is the first time it has done it, but it's worth a try assuming yours is not totally out.

I've heard from many of the '97-'99 ES owners that the LCD displays from their stereo have blackened out so that the digits/letters are unreadable. I'm guessing this is due to the shortened nature of the circuitry behind the LCD display.

However for the '00-'01 ES, the stock stereo was revised with a new wiring harness as well as factory wood trim. I haven't heard of a case from a '00-'01 ES owner that their stereo LCD display has failed, so I'm assuming this problem was fixed starting with the '00 ES.

You can find stock stereo replacements for your failed unit on Ebay from time to time. I wouldn't advise a full replacement from the dealership as it's too much money based on a defective LCD display.

My '99 GS has the same problem with the radio display. Don't know what causes it...just happens I guess. Not even going to bother fixing it...
