Default ls430 not always starting after puddle

2005 LS430 Ultra. I drove through a @ 1 foot puddle in a storm the other day and got home fine. The next morning I saw that my front fender splash guard was dragging on the passenger side. I guess the mechanic may not have gotten it clipped in correctly last repair and the pressure from the water hitting it may have dislodged it. At any rate, the car also wouldn't start. Normal lights, but just a click. I did jump the car and it started right up. I snapped the splash guard into place as best I quickly could and drove a couple of miles. It started again, so I drove it a good 60 miles, starting it several times with no trouble. When I got home, the splash guard was out again (I guess it is mis-shapen enough so I plan to replace it. Unfortunately now the car didn't start again after leaving it for a couple of hours. I'll remedy the splash guard, but what did I do to the car? It seems strange that it drove so well after jumping it, and then didn't start again. I haven't tried to jump it yet, but will tomorrow. I've got 207K on it so I hope it's not expensive!

Start with cleaning the battery terminals and posts. A very hot engine (and starter) (like a very cold engine) take more voltage to turn over. If the battery connections aren't solid, it won't start.

Could be as simple as replacing the battery, but test it first.
