Default FLICKERING Head Lights - 2004 LS 430

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at a 2004 LS, and in the service history there is only one item I am unsure about;

"DESCRIPTION: DISTRIBUTOR/HDLIGHT/T. SGNL ~|~CS AFS LT FLICKERING HEADLIGHTS STILL WORK. ~|~TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED FLICKERING PERFORMED HEALTH CHECK - CODE FOR REAR HEADLIGHT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR MALFUNCTION. QUOTE $579 PLS TAX INSTALLED. ~|~CUSTOMER DECLINES REPAIR AT THIS TIME. NOTE AFS LIGHT WILL CONTINUE TO FLICKER BECAUSE THE SENSOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED."

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

There's a height control sensor on the left front and rear which activate the headlight aim (up / down) at start-up. The rear sensor is apparently not working. The part (#8940850060) lists retail at $332. Diagram and part number below. It's an easy DIY. Cheaper through Amazon > https://www.amazon.com/LEXUS-REAR-HE.../dp/B017O0IPFU

As for a DIY, I have literally never worked on a car other than doing an oil change. Do you still think this is something I could do myself? I am very handy and tech savvy.

Searching about this on google, I keep seeing mentions of issues with air suspension. That is not relevant to this issue correct? This is just the headlight leveler? Not sure if there's a correlation. Again, I am not very knowledgeable on cars.

This is independent of air suspension. Does the car you're looking at even have air suspension?

If you can safely jack up and support the car, remove rear wheel, then it's a few bolts and a plug-in wire harness. And, if you install the sensor in exactly same location as the one removed, you won't have any adjustments to make.

This is the car: http://www.highlineimports.com/web/u...ania/26213317/

I submitted the credit app earlier today. They've had a few price drops, and just yesterday came from $9,500 down to $8,900.

I don't see any issues listed other than the headlight sensor (although I know that doesn't mean there ARE no more issues).

Clean Carfax / 1 Owner / Under 11K miles per year avg.

Seems to be in great shape. Has new tires.

I hope it's a great deal :-)

I think I could manage that repair by myself!

Just took the plunge! Put the deposit down, will be picking up the car this Saturday.

I'm glad I waited it out. I spent the past 4 months emailing the sales rep about this car. Got it for $8,900 when they originally listed it at $12,500.

Will post pics when I have it!

I picked up a 02 UL with 95K miles and full maintenance records. Haven't got a chance to get it registered and take pics yet but I'll be doing that soon.
