Default Can a 04 Laser Control unit be replaced with a 05-06 Unit?

I am guessing the answer to this question is no but can the 04 laser unit that sits in the lower part of the front bumper be replaced with the unit that sits behind the grill on the 05-06? My laser cruise control is not working on my 04, the glass does not appear broken but I am having a much easier time finding 05-06 units used than 04 units, just seeing if I could plug one of those in, my guess is no since the technology is different but maybe someone has tried?

I believe the grill unit is radar and it's part of the PCS system. I'd bet there is a whole extra computer (or many) that you would need to be able to switch.

BTW you can disable the adaptive cruise by holding the cruise handle forward for a few seconds after you've enabled (but not set) the cruise.

I thought the PCS system is separate as that was available on my car too although I don't believe I have it and I believe an option even on 05-06 UL cars?

If it is a laser module it should work fine. Double check part numbers. PCS used radar instead of laser. Laser was only for cruise pacing and PCS was not offered until radar was introduced.

the actual plug looks identical between the 2 pieces but they sit in different parts of the car...and don't feel like experimenting for $550 bucks

As above, cars with the PCS (pre collision) option have Radar cruise which sits behind the "L" emblem in the grill behind a little plexi shield. That's the second link

Cars without the PCS option have the laser cruise in your first link

It's not a model year thing, it's an option thing. Your car doesn't sound like it has PCS so you want to look for the laser parts.

I'd start with looking at fuses. Not common issue but easier first step than pulling things apart.

good call, issue I have is when I first turn it on and I am stationary it says radar ready but if I try to turn it on while the car is in motion I instantly get an error and to service the radar system. I can still use the normal cruise system but I have to shut off the laser before I go above approximately 10 to 15 mph
