Default LS430 Middle East Engine Oil

Hi guys
new to this forum. So I have a ls430 2005 imported from USA california it had already done 120K when it arrived still has to do 130K. Lexus dealer here is since the only one provides 5w-40 oil while the engine actually asks for 5w-30 I was wondering if it's good to switch to 0w-20/5w-30 by total both of them. Should I stick with 5w-40 here should I use one of my mentioned grades 0w-20/5w-30 cause I really need to keep my baby healthy.
FYI Here in dubai the average temp is above 30°C and summer goes sometimes above 50.
Regards
P'S I forgot to mention that I am currently running the car with 0w-40 mobil 1 and since the oil change the fuel economy has gone down from 400+ to 340+

Isn't higher number work for higher temp? So 5-40 seems right

Because of your climate 5w 40 is a good choice. The thinner oil is standard for climates that have cooler temperatures. 0w 20 is not officially recommended for the LS430. 5W 20 is accepted but again this really applies for climates that get below freezing consistently in the winter. Stick with what your local dealer recommends.

Hi.
I had a 96 LS400 that I sold withe 300k+ km, I done about 180k befor selling it.
Currently I have a 04 LS430 got it withe about 150k km and now it's at 235k+ km.
bothe are US imports and on bothe I used Mobil1 I beleve its the 5-40 the one that is available evry where and Chang the oil and filter evry 10,000 km. It works great, may lose a bit on mileage but provide great protection to your engine. I recomend using a filter magnet if you are planning on keeping it for long, and don't use Total oil as its not a hight quality oil as Mobil, BP, Shell, or castrol.
PS: Hear in the UAE oil manufacturers don't sell all the grads of oil that they produce.

I'd run the 5W-30, even in your climate. 0W-40 was never specified by Lex as a compatible oil. I wonder if the VVT stuff even functions with 40?

I agree!. That grade of oil could def impact how the VVTI works.

In the hot *** desert I'm sure 40 weight will not hurt anything.

I have a turbo car that asks for 0W30 or 5W30 but had a problem with sludge. The guy that rebuilt the turbo told me to start using 5W40 as it maintains its viscosity at the higher temps and is less likely to form sludge.

You can read here,

http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/

but the first number is how it behaves at colder terms and the second how it behaves at hotter temps. In other words a 40 will stay more viscous at higher temps relative to a 30 oil. A 0 will stay thinner at colder temperatures vs a 5 which will help cold starts.

I don't think your going to see a big difference but if you're going to drive in hot temps I would tend to go with the higher weight oil and run 5W40.

Oil weight varies per engine and application. My WRX specifies 5w 30 but if you are tracking the car many use a higher weight oil due to the heat.

I had a 2005 2.0t model that was nearly new and still under the factory warranty, and I found it worked MUCH better with 5w-40 even though the manufacturer recommended 5w-30.

I was burning off 1-2 quarts per oil change until I went with the heavier oil and the oil consumption basically stopped. I did some research and it was a pretty widespread issue with that era motor.

I've hear in general manufacturers are pushing "lighter" oil grades like 5w-20 more for fuel economy reasons to help meet CAFE regulations but some say it comes at the expense of engine life.

Yeah this is true. I just did my first oil change at 2k miles just a few days ago. I went with Mobile 1 ESP 5w 30. I am interested in seeing if she burns any oil at this weight. There have been reports of the 2015+ WRX's FA 2.0T series using oil but it is kind of hit and miss. It is a direct injection motor too. Many seem to like PUP 5w 30 in the black jug but I could not find it locally.

I may go with a heavier weight oil if I notice she is using any. Right now she is not.

This is what I am putting down on a stage 1 tune. About 30 horse power and torque over stock. Such a blast to drive and the custom tune makes a huge difference over factory.
