Default cruise control question

On my 05 LS430 I was driving home on the highway about 70 MPH with the cruise on , and all of a sudden the cruise started beeping and the braked applied , the sensor on the dash was set to 3 car lengths , so I kicked it down to one and about 10 minutes later , the beeps came on again and the brakes applied, anybody ever heard this happen?

Be sure to clean the glass window of the laser cruise in the lower front passenger side bumper.

It will do this in the rain---

If it keeps up try using "normal" cruise, it should not do it then.

Wait... there's a way to run the cruise without the vehicle sensing thing?

sure...the lever with the button that you depress to invoke cruise, press that lever away from you, after you press the cruise button of course. You'll see the words "normal cruise" or something like that on the dash, indicating that normal cruise control is operational rather than laser or radar.

owners manual reveals all.

OMG I must try this soon. I agree the owner's manual is where it's at. I think I absorbed as much as I could on the first run through it. I guess I need to run back through it and learn some more.

I ask about this feature because I end up in traffic that's just dense enough to freak the auto-cruise out. A car merges in front of me and then accelerates or changes lanes again and I've had to console the cruise and baby it after it's had a near nervous break down.

Thanks,
AN

Yes normally radar cruise is the cat's meow, to the point I wonder how I ever lived without it, but people cutting in front of you does make for a freaked out car LOL

.......it took me a while to realize 2 things: that the follow distance was adjustable, and that "normal" cruise could be invoked.

As said above, reading the manual is essential, especially on a car like this with buttons you may not know about

thanks everybody for the helpful comments, and yes normal cruise works a lot smoother and finer , it took a few tries but I got her to engage , just like you said , turn on cruise ,put the lever forward and set your speed , no problems

The Radar Cruise will also drop off when the Rain Sensing Wipers engage. You may continue to cruise
in the rain using conventional cruise if desired.
