02 LS430 laser cruise

The outside sensor on my 2002 LS430 was damaged. Dealer advises the entire unit needs to be replaced at over $1,700. I don't use this feature and only want to use the normal cruise although this sensor shuts everything down. Any way to bypass the laser version so the regular cruise will work?

This is good to know. On the Lincoln MKS, if the sensors are dirty or there is some other fault in the adaptive cruise control, there is no way to use "normal" cruise control.
