Default '01 DosLex SwitchBlade Style Key!!! Way Cool!!

Howdy:
Just got it in & set-up my brand spankin new Ebay SwitchBlade style key for my stunning '01 UL!
So, buy from "1010keys", neat outfit, for $40.99 includes shipping and they CUT THE KEY for you! I couldn't find the key code, so, you send him a high density picture and they make it from the photo AND send you the key code!
See photos. Now don't none of you RatBastards copy my key & come steal my sled (I'll kill ya deader then dead!).
A little tricky splitting the case to load-up your electrics (read the directions carefully or you'll have bits flying!). Don't ask why I know this.......
Looks Great! Works Great!
Best, RW

I purchased two of these about 6 months ago. I was very happy with them .....initially, but now-not so much.

The screws that hold the two halves together pulled out and the whole mess ended up on the floor. Fortunately the car started as this happened as it would be very difficult to do this with only the "key" portion.

I sent 1001keys a message about this. The warranty is up of course, but I wanted to purchase the button and spring as these were lost somehow. They informed me that my ignition must be worn and need replacement as the torque required to start the car would never normally cause this to happen. I thanked them for telling me this and again asked them to SELL me the button and spring. They said they would send one-not sure when.

The switchblade key is cool. I'm sure if I had known how fragile it was before I purchased it-I would have taken care how I turned it, and it would have lasted much longer.

My advise to you is to hold the plastic portion close to the key tightly when starting.

I have JB welded the holes shut, and put the screws back in but my confidence is lost. I believe that these should have a metal insert with a machine screw rather than a sheet metal screw into the plastic.

Howdy:
Thanks for the input.
I am regularly a sucker and I sure like mine "right outa the gate".
I'll try to be a little more gingerly with mine & see how she performs.
I kept my other cases & think I'll throw one of the empties in the console...
Thanks! RW

I just purchased these and they were dead accurate.

Well worth the risk for me.

Well built and took 5 minutes to do.

I purchased this awhile back and I haven't had a problem yet. It isn't the strongest thing out there but for the price you can't beat it. I hold the plastic when I start the car.

"The LS key design was one of the worst ever".. -My Key Maker.

I also think the stock key and that aftermarket one are cheap and bad design.

I own a parking company and years ago, we use to snap the older style lexus keys at least once a month. We parked about 30k car a month and the Lexus key was the ONLY key to so this.

Sad if you actually think about it
