got caught in a crossfire yesterday
driving through my neighborhood yesterday and i notice a young girl standing along the curb and she has a rock in her hand and i say to the wife,i hope she doesnt throw that rock and as i say it i hear a smack on some part of the glass.
my wife sees a boy on the opposite side of the street running into this house so i stop and back up and knock on this kids door.father comes out and i tell him what i and my wife had seen.he then has his son come out and says did you through a rock at his car?he says yes.
the father says is there any damage?i said lets see.
i find a chip in the drivers side passenger glass and a chip in the stripe that separates the window that moves and the stationary glass.
the father says johnny apologize the the man so he does with no emotion, doesnt care less.
i say other then the chips and the window isnt broken i will live with it and he says johnny you play nice and leaves.
my point is with this is what the hell are we teaching our kids these days?if i did that when i was a kid my parents would of removed a couple of layers of a$$ and i would of did the same to my kids.
these kids were likely 8 or 9 years and it wasnt there first rodeo at throwing rocks.

Heck, I saw one of my younger first cousins hit a car passing our house on Main Street in a small Missouri town during a large family gathering late one warm summer evening -- about 55 years ago. He was just a kid playing with his other cousins and he did not understand the ramifications of what he was doing. I think he learned a lesson that night.
That little juvenile delinquent is now a successful physician specializing in geriatrics. He has liked my Lexus cars but his daily drivers have been the most expensive Mercedes S-class sedans - so maybe he hasn't learned enough lessons!

U shouldnt just live with it. You have enough information to file a vandalism claim (comp deductible) and your adjuster can send the bill to the parents or their ins. company. Get your baby fixed.
I would go back and tell the kids parents u decided u cant live with the damage , and give him the chance to resolve it on his own, if he refuses then u have no choice but to go the legal route.
The parent(s) are solely responsible for the kids actions in this scenario, that's a given. He needs to at least make an effort to fix the damage, call his insurance company and see what they can do, something along those lines. The way he brushed it off is unacceptable.
There has to be some sort of report written up though for insurance purposes, this does not make you the bad guy at all, the outcome will be beneficial to both parties, your car is fixed, life lesson for the kid and parent.
