Default long drive ahead, wondering down to Florida

Hi all,

I am driving to Florida this weekend. Meeting some guys for a week of golf, and stay after on my own as long as the weather is good. It's 3 days driving eight hours/day, maybe longer, who knows. So ....

What route may be nicer for scenery and site seeing ?

Leaving from Toronto, Canada and go through Buffalo and take I-70 through Pittsburgh, then I_19 to I-77 through Charlotte and then to West Palm ... or

route 2. Take the more coastal route using I-95

They're about the same distance. Flip a coin ?

After more thought, I came up with a major detour and trying to decide now which would be a better stop for a single 58 year old guy driving alone, Nashville or New Orleans. I have the extra time, and I can choose to remain in Florida once my golfing buddies fly home.

Scenery wise, 95 has nothing but trees after Virginia. Take another route.

I95 has some of the US' worst drivers at their worst during rush hours - I'd avoid it. Have a safe trip and I hope you get nice sunny warm weather.

i would take 95 to85 then 75.then if you need to get back on 95 again take 10 east at the florida and ga line.
i avoid 95 as much as possible.85 is a much better road and has less traffic and more lanes.

haven't been on 95 anywhere north of Florida but I would imagine taking the 77 route through the Appalachians and Charlotte would be more scenic. I'd rather drive through mountains than low coastal plain that doesn't even have a view of the coast.

I like trees, ..... I drove 95 maybe 30 years ago - not that interesting so I will try another route.

Thanks. Just want 60 degrees and no rain to play golf ... and maybe a few beach days would be OK too

I will try 77 ... pretty direct and never seen the Appalachians, but heard they are "mountains". I have snow tires but hope I get clean roads.

Sounds like you're in for a fun ride. I just drove down to Ga and now Va from Watertown, NY (20 minutes from Kingston, Canada). Weather is crap right now, you might want to stay off 95 but that just may be the easiest way, straight shot, but traffic sucks at times.

The mountains and coastal runs will be your most scenic. The most direct route is probably the most boring. The mountains are beautiful. So many great places to see. 85 and 75 are very boring. Check out Savannah if you take the coast.

And you are more likely to get harmed in that city than Nashville. Plus, its way west, compared to somewhat on the way with Nashville.

Just read again...you're starting from Canada. Wow..enjoy the NY jungle on 95. If you can avoid the whole NY/Nj/DC areas avoid them or add 3 hours to your trip.
