Leaded Mid Grade
Premium has always been like 20 cents difference her in wisco. It is now 40 plus cents above regular for the last 8 months. I always have run primo as I will not subject my LS to ethanol and is what is recommended. I have one station which has mid grade no ethanol no others. I plan on starting mixing mid no eth and primo no eth. How many states offer mid grade no ethanol? Thanks Just curious.
warm in i read your posts all the time and know how knowledgable you are, just realize you will lose about 1mpg per gallon and obvious the performance decrease, i have been using shell 87 and chevron 87 on long trips with cruise control to save money, my observations are local driving and the way the car performs stick with 93,
when i moved to cali it was hard to mix 87 and 91 because of the premium being lower than 93

forgot to add if you take an average of 22mpg divide the 1mpg out at 4.00 gallon do the math the 30 to 40 cents a gallon you pay for premium is almost justified with the 1mpg more you get on each gallon
i drove cross country and posted a post on it it was interesting to me
cheers

one last fyi, if you go to gasbuddy website, you can search for lowest prices for 89 if you want to go that route
i bring this up because alot of stations play games where they charge extra for 89 so sometimes its easier to go 2/3 regular and top off with 93 to save money.
enjoy

Totally agree. It is not worth the cost savings vs decreased mpg. Also, running 87 can lead to premature cat failure. The car was designed for at least 91. You are not saving yourself any money by running 87. In reality, it will cost you more money. I run 93 all the time and a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment every 3k miles or so. $5.00 more per tank... give me a break. That's like a 2 soda's...

lavish, you ever try the chevron fuel system cleaner every 5000 , i like it better than the lucas, feel its more safe and the bottle with increase in gas mileage pays for itself for the 6$ at walmart
i dont like the lucas stuff with lubricating the head i like the safe route with the above
there are two variations one fuel injection cleaner and the above is better helps with deposits on the valves

i know the lucas is a good product, i have researched this extensively if you give the chev fuel system cleaner a try i think long term it makes more sense for the vehicle, what i do to pay for the bottle is i get to end of tank put bottle if it in with 87 shell or chevron if you take the 20 gallons at 30 cents a gallon it pays for itslef and cleans the valves, fuel system etc.. product is excellent there is no oil in it and i feel its safer than the lucas

Sorry I meant no ethanol midgrade in the title. We only get no ethanol in Premium, it is usually 91 rated. If I get a 93 octone and blend 1/2 a tank of the 89 mid grade no ethanol I am at recommended 91. My last one ran perfect for 197k so I do not want to gamble on cats and O2 sensors so thanks again!! I was just curious if you all can get a mid grade no ethanol?
Ya know my MPG's in my rural small city area is like 23.5 to 24.5 higher now with this last one with 18's and a newer mill I am happy with the mpg's of my LS for what I get just 20 cents and 45 cents is a difference! Thanks

The gas "savings" is minimal and you would be at the gas station longer. For us So. Cal peeps, the $.10 difference on 15 gallons is $1.50 and the 91-93 premium on a full tank will yield better MPG. The $5/month difference can be made up in other areas. One or two of those high calorie sugar coffee drinks right there.
Would be nice to not have ethanol. Our slug would be in the 25 MPG range but the mix has us down in the 22 and 23 MPG at best.

That's $7.00 a tank. Aftermarket catalytic converters are about $600 installed. OEM is about 2 grand installed. Something to think about. It actually would be cheaper for you to buy a case of octane booster and add that + 87 to get higher octane.
