Default Question about ls430 cupholder

So still getting acclimated to the 430, coming out of a 400. In my LS400, opening the cup holder resulted in a smooth steady deployment of the cup holder assembly. I presume there was some sort of damper slowing the opening speed a bit. It is a classy set up.

In my LS430, opening the cup holder results in a rapid snappy action that sort of clatters as the holder rings deploy. Is there supposed to be any kind of a damper on the LS430 cup holders or is what I am experiencing normal?

Thanks for any insight

Mine is smooth and feels damped. When I replaced it I don't recall seeing anything that provides the damping or friction. You may want to take it out and see what's broken or come loose.

Actually mine is doing the same thing now. It was slower at first but now it just pops out like a jack in the box. Im thinking something in the tracks may have become loosened. I will eventually take it apart to see whats the issue. I will report my findings.

It operates smoothly and gracefully, just like the LS400. No "snap" in the motion.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the confirmation.

I will have to check mine out and see what it looks like. I could not see anything specifically mentioned as a damper in the exploded view I found at Sewell. It may be integral to the cupholder assy.

As mentioned by another poster, I will report back what I find.

The are two damping "nipples" under the holder bottom that eliminates any knocking sound onto the dash when it fully opens. On mine, one was missing and causing knocking on one side, but i got an after market replacement nipple and it's good.

Both the lower cushions or nipples are in place on mine. The speed of deployment is a lot faster, almost uncontrolled, than in my LS400 and the noise is primarily the clatter of the arms opening as the cup holder opens, and the lower bumpers bouncing on the console.
