I sure wouldn't drive it. I would "flat-bed" it to the dealer at their expense.

they "should" know the oil capacity of your motor.
either they were being complacent
or they might not have replaced the oil filter, which again is a problem
as a new filter is more important than new oil.
when you remove the filter it retains oil, idk about the size of your filter but
on one of my vehicles the capacity of my filter is half a qt.

that still wouldnt be an excuse to overfill it by a whole qt, but would identify
another problem.

the problem with TOO MUCH oil is that it flows up to the crankshaft, which, upon
contact aerates the oil, turning it into mist rather than liquid, so that it cant be pumped
through the system. how do you know its over 1 qt. if its at the top/high line, youre good.

It is just as high over the full line to the low line.

this is another thread on why you should do your own oil change if you are healthy enough to do so.

I think he means the same gap over the full line as the gap of the low to full line.

It's probably not a huge deal, but it would bug me. Bring it back and tell them to properly refill.. You don't just haphazardly throw in 6 quarts.you put in 5 and the slowly add until you hit the top mark. I'm sure they will take care of you. Just bring it back. I don't think the car will explode by driving it to the dealer. Good luck.

Ok called Lexus they said it was ok. They said if there was a problem you would know about it. I went to toyota because lexus is a hour away toyota is 2 miles away they said I did no damage but they wanted to change the oil any way even though it only had 1K on the oil. I had them change the oil they said it was 1 1/2 quart too much oil. I have this documented in case there is a problem. I just got this car 6 weeks ago from lexus with 1 year warrenty from lexus it has 27K.

sounds like the lexus dealer owes you a free oil change.

So the same Lexus dealer that overfilled it 1 1/2 quarts told you it was OK to be overfilled? WOW what idiots. I guess Jimbosr1 has a good point but I will just check my oil after a change from now on.

I left my Yota dealer for Lexus last oil change they will do a stright forward Mobil 1 change and filter for 75 bukcs but i guess I gotta check up on em.

55ecl,

I would write a letter to the service manager at the dealership and ensure that they are aware that you will be sending a follow-up letter to Lexus HQ's.

The Toyota tech said I did no damage the minute he saw the car with out checking the oil then he checked the oil and said it was high. The Lexus dealer said it would not damage the motor. If I have proof that Toyota said it was 1 1/2 quart high I think that is good enough if anything happens due to this. What is Lexus HQ going to do?
