Occasionally I have trouble getting my 2002 LS 430 into Drive when I start up the car. After a while it eventually will shift even though I have done nothing differently. I do have my foot on the brake and have tried gently moving the steering wheel from side to side

 

had the same problem with my old LS430. Ended up getting so frustrated with it I took it to the dealer. Car has a bad shifter pad and brake switch. Cost me $575 but was fine after the service.

 

Thanks for the info. I did call Lexus and they told me about a small square inset button the the gear shift base that can be removed with a screwdriver. Inside is a button that supposedly overrides the parking gear. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. I have never seen that on a car before.

 

Do you have the part number?
