Default Gear selector getting stuck

Lately I noticed that when I get in the truck and start it up the gear selector want go into gear. Sometime I have to turn the truck off and restart it and work the selector and finally it moves. I was wondering if anyone else has experience the same problem.

How does it drive and shift? My guess would be something in the gear selector linkage is lose or warn.

It drives and shift with no problem. I had to use the gear selector release button to get in gear now.

I had a metal pin fall out of mine. Mine would still shift into P N D and R, but wouldn't go all the way down. It became loose and sloppy. I bought a replacement shifter on eBay. Any 03-09 will work, and is much cheaper than a new one.

Is it sticky, or locked out like the car isn't registering it's safe to shift from park? Maybe a bad brake light switch?

It's more locked out. I have to use the button release to get it in gear. I think I will replace the brake light switch first! Thanks

The brakes light come on. Now the selector is working sometimes. I did notice when the selector wont move into gear the abs, vsc trac, vsc off and skid control symbol lights up and the selector won't move. When the lights go out the selector moves ok.
