Default Tire Size

I have a 2002 LS 430. I think it's referred to as 3rd gen. It must be the 1st gen of the 430 and I'm guessing that there were 2 gens of the LS 400 previous. There must be 5 gens with the 2 400s, 2 430s and the folowing 460. My question is wether there is a database with the wheel and tire sizes corresponding. i would like to see the orig stock size and the possible + sizes. I just got a 2002 LS 430 and tried 235/65/16 tires on the stock wheels and they are just slightly too large. I assume the limiting factor is the wheel wells. At least that seems to be the case with these on my fronts. They contact slightly at one spot when backing with the wheel turned right. It is only on the left front wheel well. If anybody has info on this I would apreciate it. It would be nice to know what years stock wheels would interchange as well. Bolt pattern etc. I looked in the FAQs but didn't find what I was looking for there. I must be using the wrong search terms because I'm not coming up with much.

The stock sizes along the LS 430 were 225x60 16" ; 226x55 17" ; and 245x45 18" anything else might have rubbing issues.

As for generations, there were two unique LS400 generations leading up to the LS430, and then the current LS460. The '13 LS430 is not a completely new LS460 but a 2nd "midcycle" refresh that was more extensive than the first refresh.

Default Tire size

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that all three of those tire sizes are quite close when it comes to height and width. Also I'm wondering about what size difference as far as height, which is directly proportional to diameter and therefore rolling / rotational length / circumference, would be the max tolerance for the ABS and ESC etc? Is there much? It sounds like someone is running a bigger rear tire than the fronts. Have there been any issues? Is there a way to simply disable those functions? Would it unadvisable to even try?

Default Tire size

I should have said tire height would be close. Obviously the width would be different.

I have no issues with abs/vsc or any other active safety system. I like the look of a fatter tire in the back and more traction.

Default tire width

I like the look of a wide tire in back as well as the added traction. I don't think there should be any issues unless the height was different. Circumference is what I believe the electronics are based on. I wonder how much difference there is in height between your fronts and rears? Obviously they are within tolerance if you have not had any issues. Thanks for the input.

Now I'm interested myself in how much of a difference is between fronts and rears. Will measure tomorrow and report back.

Default Tire fitment

I called Discount Tire today to inform them that the Michelin 235/65/15 winter tires that they installed on Friday had rubbed while backing with the steering wheel turned. This was faint and only on the driver side. I also noted that the larger tires didn't look right on the car. I wanted them to get the 225/60 size for me. They said no probelm and ordered them. I have to say that this is the second time I have changed my mind on tires that they had installed for me. Once on a different car. They stood behind their guarantte that time as well. Both times was my decision to go ahead with the initial tires I chose, only to come back for a different set. I am pleased to say the least, and will continue to be their customer in the future.

You could have kept the wider 235, but should have done a 55 aspect ratio to keep a closer diameter, not gone up 65 and blown the clearance. As long as TireRack worked with you, then it's all good.

Default Tire Clearance

I wanted to get plus size tires. I have always done that in the past. I am running snows on the back of my 07 Tundra (2WD) without issue fron the esc. The size of the fronts are the same as the backs but the brands and design are different. There does not seem to be a measurable difference, at least in height with a tape measure. I have not dealt with vsc or other electronic monitoring except for that. I was warned that there might be a concern if I just went with snows on the back of the LS. I went with all 4 winter tires instead not just because of that but to have the best ride compromise and have all 4 tires new and matching. I should have checked the clearance on the left front as well as the right front during the install. My mistake, and I should know better, no excuses. I stopped at the gas station for my first fill on Friday after leaving Discount Tire, which was on my way home from picking up the car at the dealership, when I purchased it that very same day. When I was filling it up with gas I took a 360 look at the car. This was the first time for that outside with the new tires on it. I didn't like the look. They looked too tall for the car. When my wife drove it the next day for the first time, we noticed the slight, almost imperceptable rub noise while backing out of our drive. This was in the LF wheel well and with the front wheels turned right at just one spot, and was difficult to duplicate. The car was on level pavement at the time not dropping off the drive to the street. I didn't feel too smart right about then. This is going to be her car once I check it out a bit and determine it's OK. The car now sits waiting for the new replacement tires to arrive at Discount. The should be there on Wednasday afternoon. I hope to have them installed the following day. I would like to get some seat time, but it looks like it will probably be a week after I actually bought the car before I'll be able to drive it for a good shakedown.

Default computed tire size

According to my quick calculations, 235 is aprox. 9 & 1/4 in wide. The overall height of 235/65/16 should be aprox 28 & 1/32 Tall.
The 225 should be aprox. 8 & 7/8 in wide. The overall height of 225/60/16 should be aprox. 26 & 2/3 in.
I hope this info can be helpful to someone in the future.
