Default windows fogging (inside)

i tried searching, but nothing came up that pertained to my inquiry.

now granted, i'm not in this car all the time since it's my wife's car. but when we drive in it (my wife, our 2 year old son, & i) the windows start to get fogged up really fast. like last night, we basically had to drive around with the defroster on. we joked that we have to hold our breath when driving in her car.

anyone have this problem? this doesn't happen as fast in my GS430.

Check to see if it is only fog (water) using a clean white paper towel.
If it is oily, one possibility is that you have a pinhole in the heater core, and antifreeze is condensing on the inside of the windshield. This would actually be made worse by turning on the defroster.
You would also lose coolant over time, but faster when the heater is in use.

sorry. i guess i should clarify. i really don't think it's the heater core. actually, the rear windows get fogged up 1st. there is no oily residue that i can detect. and yes, the selector is set to recirculate.

Default there is your answer

You are recirculating the moist air inside the cabin instead of getting the fresh air inside the car. Put the selector in "fresh air" mode and it should improve dramatically. btw, what do you set your GS430 at?
You do know that using the heater and A/C at the same time is possible and encouraged during the winter month, right?
sorry I don't know this cars at all, so maybe it's not possible on your model.

It's possible.

Running the AC will remove moisture from the cabin. The LS 430 has a button marked "Front" which turns on the AC and directs the fans to the windshield and clears the windows in a hurry. (If you get cold, crank up the heater tempurature.)

You have another button marked "Rear" that turns on the electric-wire heaters in the rear window and will clear that window (and the side mirrors) pretty quickly.

Set the climate control system to auto with recirc off and A/C on. If your car has nav, go to the climate control screen to verify these settings.

Thoroughly clean the inside of your windows using Stoners Invisible Glass, available at most auto parts stores and Wal-Mart. Dirty windows (especially in cars owned by smokers) fog up more.

Use the front and rear defrost settings if necessary. Generally, I've found the LS430 to be one of the better vehicles for climate control efficiency and fog-free windows. (My new Prius needs to be kept on bi-level setting to keep the windows fog-free.)

Be aware that during warm spells in the winter, you can drive your car out of your cold garage into warm, moist outside air and have the fog form on the outside of the windows.

If you haven;t already checked, couple of mechanical things to check....check that your cabin air filter (behind glove box) is clean and completely free of dust, dirt, and debris). Check your outside vents - with hood open/up the vent openings are below windshield wipers...make sure the outside vents are clear and free of any debris, dirt, leaves, etc.

My experience is that the LS is remarkably free of fogging - I leave it on full auto with air on.

I leave my air on automatic year round (which means the compressor is always on). Always provides perfect temp with dry air.

On a side note, it is important to keep the air conditioning on all of the time to prevent the system's seals from drying out and producing leaks.

I was wondering what you can use to clean the windshield if the coolant?Looks like I have that same problem and was going to try and use bars leak radiator and heater core stop leak.Have you tried that?
