New here with question
Hello Everyone. I just got back from the dealership after dropping off our 2003 LS 430 for the 90,000 mile service. We were quoted $ 519.95 by the service writer for the service earlier. He wrote a figure over $ 2,000.00 on the bottom of the service order and I reacted. He said that included the timing belt which the other figure did not. I asked the cost for just the timing belt and he said around $ 1,300 with tax, etc. I pointed out that the book said the timing belt was included in the 90,000 service and he said the newer cars don't need the belt so they don't include it in their quotes. What have some of you paid for your 90,000 mile services ? Thanks again for any and all replies. I look forward to this forum.

as far as i've seen on here the cost at the lex stealership is generally between like $1200 -2k+ for the 90k
i ordered all the parts from Seawell for like $200 and had an independent certified mechanic quote me like $700 for the install of everything in the 90k.

I love the discount Sewell give us for being clublexus members! It made a significant difference in the total for all the maintenance items I ordered. If you decide to go "outside" for your maintenance, log in to Sewell using your club membership to get the discounted prices for the parts.

Recovering Lexus Addict
I've never heard of a dealer NOT recommending the timing belt change at 90K - especially on a 9 year old LS. I would go by what the owners manual says, not the service writer.

I say run also....to an indy guy or Yota dealership and check. My '05 is just turning 90K but I'm going to wait till 100K to change the belt. Got quoted $850 with water pump from my local indy.

I was quoted just over $500 for the timing belt change at my local Lexus. That did not include water pump, idler pulley, and tensioner pulley. Two thousand is ridiculous. You can buy the parts and have an independent shop install for you.

I had my 90k recently done at my local Toyota dealership. It was $800 out the door including the timing belt. Lexus wanted $1800. Check with ur local Toyota dealer to see if they service Lexus'. Not all do.

I always have service performed on the wife's LS at the local Toyota dealer unless it's warranty work. Same parts and far less cheaper than Lexus service. Why throw money away?

I understand that if the belt breaks, you're engine will be completely trashed. So I had my belt replaced at 55K miles more because of age than miles. My car is now 9 years old and only has 72K miles. (All but the first 13 miles are mine!)
The cost for the belt replacement at Steven's Creek Lexus was about $890 parts and labor. Included free snacks and a loaner Lexus.

Have your TB changed. Buy the TB and WP 90k kit of parts on line and find a Toyota or even Lexus dealer to quote you just labor to install your parts. A blown TB is a very bad thing so you need to get it changed per the book.
btw - the real rip off is the $519 they wanted to charge you for doing almost nothing as part of the 90k maintenance "package". No lube indeed.
On a 2003 change your own oil and AT fluid. Change your own oil, engine, and cabin filters. These are easy diy jobs, or buy the parts at discount and find a good independent shop to do the work.

can we get a insight on the statement that if you dont change the timing belt and it goes your motor is shot...
Im at 118K and have not changed the belt yet... id like to know if i need to do it before i end up buying another motor.
