Default where to cut key?

searched the forums and couldn't find anything definitive... there were some saying that you could go to any hardware store, but i tried both lowes and home depot and they said they can't do it...

i bought a shell on ebay and now all i need is the key to be cut... i don't feel like coughing up chunk of change to the dealer for this... any ideas?

thanks.

If your car is 01-03 or non-smartaccess 04-06, folks have found locksmiths to cut the key. If it is smartaccess from 04-06, I think most everyone has used the dealership to cut and program it. Warning, folks have reported that smartaccess fobs bought on ebay often don't work.

That's kind of neat, actually. Non Smart-Key 04-06s are kinda rare birds.

What trim level is your car - base, premium, modern luxury, or custom luxury? I think SmartAccess was only standard on the UL in 04-06. But, most all cars were ordered with the ~$1K option.

not even sure... no nav, no ml stereo, "cooled" seats, 5-spoke sport rims, i guess that's either a base or premium...

An 05 with no nav and cooled seats would be a Premium. Do you have the sport edition emblems on the fenders or just the optional 18" 5-spoke wheels?
