Default 01 UL vs 02 CL. 01 has bad sub

Hi everyone. On mobile so sorry its not as detailed as I'd like.

I am looking at two 430's. One is a 2002 CL that's silver/black and the other is an 01 UL that's silver/ecru. Both have about the same mileage except the 01 had the timing belt done. Ironically at the same dealer the 02 is for sale at.

Concern w/02 is that belt but the 01 has a bad woofer and I'm wondering about longevity on that ecru leather.

If I get the 01, how much would a new sub be? I was going to factor that in the trade price along with some scratches and bad hood shocks.

The 02 was in a little better shape but I'm not into black leather but the wood in the 02 is better looking than the 01s.

Thanks for the help, Ed

OEM sub sells for about $300. If you are not that concerned with originality in a 10 year old car, the defective sub can be replaced by a much less expensive 8" sub from a 3rd party speaker supply (Note - it would be 8 ohm instead of 16ohm but would still work in that application). As an alternative you can get an inexpensive kit to repair the surround foam on the old sub.

Very little difference in 01-02 versions - Value line on diff in model year is starting to go fairly linear because they are 10 and 11 years old so not much variance. I'd get the car that is in better shape regardless of model year.

A bad sub should be no reason to not choose a car. You could use silicon to repair it for a couple bucks or replace it for around $100.

I want the dealer to fix it before I buy it. Like my pops, I gotta have my bass.

How much would a timing belt/waterpump be on the 02? It was orecommend by the service department at the dealer selling it. I was going to try and swing by tonight and see what they'll give me for my 98. I bought my car from them in Jan.

They've had it since August and have dropped the price. They're going to wholesale it soon so I might get a great deal. I like the fact its standard suspension and not air but love the back seat stuff on the UL's. Just not the wood.

Maybe you should look for a CL LS, It sounds like that's what you REALLY want. Don't settle unless you get an insane deal.

Yeah the CL has pretty much everything I need as a driver. The UL is obviously for passengers and bragging rights ;0.

They're pretty sweet bragging rights.

Go for whichever fits your tastes, provided they're both in relatively similar condition. I'm willing to bet that the subwoofer problem can be easily fixed with $6 of Gorilla Glue or silicone at your local hardware store.

So do you just glue the broken part? I can do some more research when I get home tonight. Searching on mobile is fun.

I'm hoping I can get the 01 for my car around 7500. The 02 maybe 6000 and mine. The dealer selling the 02 is where I bought my 98 from.

I am scared of the UL air suspension going out. Each shock cost about $1000 to replace, about the cost of a nice coil-over for the entire car. I have the CL and I think it's best of both worlds.

I have a CL and kinda wish I had the UL just for the extra passenger comfort.

Then again, the grass is always greener right?

Yeah I figure the UL won't be bad to fall back on in case I can't get the CL. Went by and looked at the CL last night and it is in really great shape. P/O kept it garaged for sure. It lived in New Mexico. I'm in Missouri so a little different climate.
