Default Brake fluid level

I just picked up my LS430 after replacing the rear pads and noticed the brake fluid up beyond the max level all the way to the filler cap. I understand that the new pads displace the fluid pushing it to this higher level. Is it necessary to remove the excess fluid back to the max level or can I just leave it alone?

I'd take some out it was up well over max level. You can get little plastic pumps with tubing for removing fluids at most auto parts places ($6-8) - they typically screw on to a quart oil bottle but you could use anything.

Thanks Jabberwock. I actually used a tall thick straw and got out enough by holding one end with my finger to bring it down to the max level. No big deal. It's amazing how much better my pedal feels now that my rear pads are new. It's a firmer pedal as well as engaging higher up than before. Not as spongy either.

Glad you got it corrected.

btw as general info for the forum -

- brake fluid is amazing stuff - Very high boiling point, Maintains constant viscosity over extreme temp variance, very low compressibility, excellent lubricant, non corrosive to metal

But it is very corrosive to paint - get a drop on your car's paint even if you immediately wipe it off it can leave a permanent mark, left on it will melt the paint.

Also important not to mix the types of brake fluid - like DOT3 and DOT4. The different chemicals in each type can react with each other and corrode the metal inside your brakes.

Brake fluid is also flammable and poisonous so treat it with care.

I'm surprised that the system wasn't flushed and refilled with fresh fluid.
