How often should the Brake Fluid be flushed? Whenever I'm driving I get the red "BRAKE" light on my dash that goes off and on. It bothers me because I always check to see if my e-brake is up, when it's not. I'm guessing this has to do with Brake Fluid, but I am thinking of just getting it flushed and having new one put in. How often does the Brake Fluid needs to be changed?

 

the brake fluid must be low, there is a sensor on the reservour and if it sees it being low the light will come on. either that or you need new brakes that will also make it come on sometimes. usually whats recomended by most dealers is every 2 years or 25k miles i know no one probobly does that. lol

 

I do =P. Brake fluid absorbs humidity from the air and lowers its boiling point. Could be a problem if not done somewhat regularly (every 4-5 years)

worn pads mean well extended pistons. well extended pistons means more brake fluid evacuated from the master cylinder. more brake fluid evacuated from the master cylinder means a brake light could come on.

it could just mean that you are low on fluid somehow, some way. there is definitely a sensor on the cylinder that may be tripping because you are low on fluid.

check the fluid level, fill it up to MAX, and if the brake light persists...something is more majorly wrong.
