yeah my bad, its done. sounds a whole lot better, but i am not sure how much of the whole lot better is due to getting a proper clean signal via some cache type signaling device or from the whole being cut in the liner or from the new ported box. the sound quality sounds sooo much better but not necessarily hitting any harder.
my fav part is that even at a low volume now the bass sounds the way it should, cuz before i had to have it turned way up (via the remote bass knobby thing) just to be able to have the bass penetrate the trunk to the cabin, but now since the sub is basically like a stock sub it sounds imaging wise just like a stock sub,, just a much more powerful stock sub
i'm very pleased, but if i had it to do over again i would do the signaling device first ($127 i think), then have a whole cut in the trunk liner which even though pretty thin it is still a very dense material that has to be restricting some air flow, then i would go to a ported box with a top smoke stack port type dealy-o.
pics coming in the near future, but they are not very exciting. just a ported box with the port on the top and sticking up about 8+" wrapped in black box liner felt stuff to match the box. the box is just about an inch shorter (so like 3 " taller than the old box, but thinner (less deep) and wider) than the height of the trunk so unless you look directly at it you don't even notice that it has a port sticking up,, its also kinda tricky to get the box in and out. kinda gotta wiggle it from side to side and lean it slowly at the same time to get it in there,, that sounds bad but its the process

this may be true but the only single time i put beer in mines it made it warmer by blowing 60 degree air on them for the two hours i was riding around in my back seat drinking my red stripes. when i pulled them out of my home refrigerator they were like 40 degrees and by the time i got to the last 1 or 2 they were like 63 degrees upon pulling them out and opening them up. i don't mind drinking a mountain dew at a starting temp of 63 but a beer not so much, by the time i was half through the beer it was getting warm and needed to be thrown out,, or chugged, take your pic.
I plan on doing this and have ordered a sub, amp and wiring but I am debating on which route I should take as far as the box. The two options seem to be:
1. 06~Ultra as a sub and sealed box then a port from the trunk to where the stock sub was funneling the music into the cabin
2. Sojah's setup is a ported box with the port going directly into the stock subs location.
Setup 1 seems easier to do and I could probably do it myself while I think setup 2 will sound better but I would need to have a custom box built. Do you all think there will be a big difference as far as sound between the 2 setups?

sorry for not getting back to you with those pics,, i saw the text when i got in the car and forgot 35 mins later when i pulled up to mi casa... maybe i'll tie a ribbon on my finger to remind myself this afternoon.
i thought option 1 would be fine when i was first researching it, but was convinced to go with option 2 by the stereo shop installer/box builder who swore that option 1 would be a very negligible sound difference.
i can attest that option 2 made it all the better though.
if you want leroy i have my old sealed box just collecting dust and you can come try it out with your sub and if you like it throw me $50 or whatever, and if you don't like it i'll continue my dust collection efforts and you can go get a ported box made

It's all good man I do that all the time with my texts. Im leaning more towards option 2 but I may end up trying your box out whenever my sub comes in. It's suppose to take 2-3 weeks since its a built to order sub by FI Audio in Nevada. Did the shop tune the box for your sub? Also did they run the power and ground wires for you the first time they set your system setup? Running wires thru the UL is no fun

HAHA yeah i'm sure the wires are no fun, cuz i watched him take out the rear seats a few times to get wires ran. that shop did mines the first time and the second time they didn't charge me to put in the other cache device. that shop is awesome about if you pay once they don't really hit you up a second time, whether it be for stereo or hid installs
(don't tell them i said that though).
the shop is actually one of the only JL audio authorized dealers that i could locate in my area, so this is why i originally originally went to them back in 07 with my old lexus gs400. i had them take out the stuff and put it in my LS when i sold the GS.

In either case you will be creating a quasi 4th order bandpass enclosure. It will alter the sound depending on which route you go (sealed volume vs ported volume). Also size/length of the port will change how it will sound.

sorry for taking so long,, again nothing fancy, just a jl12w6 in a custom top ported box with an extended port that dumps off right where the stock sub was located on an 05LS430UL...

I have a similar set up as sojah, except without the tube up into the cab. I simply have a 12" sub firing back towards the rear of the car. The audio shop removed the factory sub and I have more than enough bass.
