trunk pass through for UL
this was the very first mod i did within 1 week of owning my LS but there is no air passing through from the trunk to cars cabin. in the trunk it is walled off to the cabin. i guess the factory sub sat in its own little space in the back shelf but by removing it you don't free up any more air to pass through.

Sojah, I hear you man, sucks having a sealed trunk. Its what stops me from doing a custom system. Why spend acouple g’s on trunk work and not enjoy it much. For me... looking at a nice car with a ****ty sounding system don't mix. So, what I came up with was a 2.5” speaker air tube. By removing the stock sub and making a hole straight through the fiber glass/rug of the trunk. This can help you get much better sound out of your music. You can see from the pic's, it doesn't even look bad.

having a shop do it ^ ^ ^. maybe tomorrow when i stop by there to get an hid ballast swapped out, i will inquire. the shop at the end of the building where you and i got the tint at leroy.
sojah, you can save some money doing this yourself. if your handy and know how to take measurements, all you need to do is find the center for the air tube..and your good to-go. you will need a dremal (or similar tool) to make the cut out.

2.5 is the outer width size ( lip of port tube), inner width (air flow) i think is 1.3/4 and length was 5 or 6”. i had cut the end piece of the tube so it can be flush with the speaker cover. the only reason i went with the 2.5 was cause i didn't want to leave a big o hole there. here’s where I got the port from. http://www.parts-express.com. go to the speaker building tab an dyou will find it under cabinet hardware.

so the stereo shop i was at yesterday showed me the super thin piece of trunk lining that is all that separates the trunk from the rear sub compartment on the UL. the material is pretty thin like 1/6 of an inch to maybe 1/4 of an inch but the material is very dense and hard. its hard to imagine that that small of material is really blocking that much of the air flow.
anyhowzer they were about to start cutting it up when we started talking about what i was ultimatley trying to achieve. we decided that i would drop my car off next week and they would build a custom ported box and have the port from the sub run straight up through that hole and pretty much act as a big funnel to dump the bass right into the stock sub location. with my same setup (1 jl12w6 & 1 jl 500.1 amp) they believe it will sound twice as good. the shop says it will sound like i doubled the setup but be much cleaner sounding.
sounds good to me so i'll post up some after pics when i get em next week but here is the before pics:

i always thought there was a bunch of math and maybe even some science involved with making custom ported boxes of this variety but the shop said they do it all the time and just did one for a big suv that they claim made a huge difference when they ran the ports all the up to the front 2 seats. lets hope they are math geniuses

That all sounds good, except for the part about running the ports up to the front 2 seats. One bass is generated in a room for instance, it doesn't matter where the speaker is located, as the bass travels everywhere, shakes everything, and you can't tell where it comes from. What am I missing here?

I am only getting like a 12" port, I was just telling u guys what they told me about a different setup. I am not new to car audio by any means and the story sounded weird to me too. For my sake I just hope they can get the math right for my 1 foot port needs.

I really like the rear ac, just not so much the mini fridge. I keep a couple water bottles in there cuz I can but its not really functional for anything else in my opinion.
