My GTE swapped single turbo IS300 was wrecked the day before thanksgiving, and is officially totaled as I found out yesterday. Anyways...
After a crash course in all things LS430 related, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the 2004 transmission recall/replacement. Some cars service histories list the transmission and fuel pump replacement, while others don't.
Now, if I were to purchase an LS that has not had the trans replaced, yet it does fall into the VIN range for the service, will I be able to get it replaced at no cost? Lets assume for the sake of the discussion that there is no existing or extended warranty, and the car in question is a private party sale.
Also, I just noticed the "recall info" section on the drivers.lexus site. If the trans wasnt listed as being replaced and the following is listed under the recall area, is it safe for me to assume that the lexus site knows what its talking about?

Early 2004 LS430's were recalled. I can't imagine why any owner of one back then would refuse to have the transmission replaced under warranty. Just wouldn't make sense. My vehicle has the transmission replaced and I got the same message as you got when I checked it on the Lexus site.

I'm currently running an 04 and as far as I know neither has been done yet. I do have cpo from Lexus in case things should go wrong. With that said I do have a late model 04, probably close to the time when they started calling them 05s.
I don't think all the 04s were affected by these items. Only if the trans shifted erratically at low speeds or the gas pump would contiuously click would you probably need the recall. If you bought from a private party, you might get the recall it for free (on good will from the dealer or if it becomes dangerous). If the car drives fine then you probably won't encounter the problems down the road. If it doesn't then you can either walk away or use it to knock the price down (though if the engine and trans aren't super smooth I would walk if I were you). I've experienced the fuel filler every now and then. It just means I have to squeeze the fuel nozzle lighter, not a huge deal IMO. Car will still accept gas.
Good luck with your search and welcome to the 430 side. What happened to the IS if you dont mind me asking? Pics of the ol ride? Sounds pretty sick from your description.

The fuel filler problem was not a recall. Only if you complained about it would the install the fix (new design filler tube, etc). I had the problem in summer a couple of times, found out about the fix, and had it done under CPO warranty. I irritated me that a nearly perfect car such as this even had a minor flaw. Not acceptable for me and they gladly fixed it.Originally Posted by CarGuy89
