How long do recalls last?
I was curious, using the lexus site to look up service records for some vehicles. I know the car is within the range of the recall and I see the fuel pump replaced but the transmission hasnt been replaced. Will lexus still honor the tranny replacement recall? The car is a 2004 with just about 100k miles. Hopefully Lexus still honors the recall and then I dont have to worry about tranny fluid flush either
Hem, good question ... I would believe it would be life of vehicle, but in this case what would prevent the owner from waiting until say 100k then get a replacement transmission under recall... o guess the risk of sliding down a hill ...
Thanks, I wasnt sure. The owner is an elderly man that just drives it and maintains it religiously. But i do not know why the trans was never replaced. Its an ultra and he doesnt even know it. I had asked if there were any buttons on the rear seat armrest and his reply "Yes I see a good amount of buttons but I have no clue what they do" LOL. Trying to close a deal soon. Old folks never budge on their asking price... But at least I will be getting a brand new tranny!
Recalls, even "safety-related vehicle recalls", usually have an expiration so contact Lexus directly and get something in writing that states that the transmission replacement is still covered before you buy the car if this is a concern.
We have had two recalls including one safety-related recall denied due to too much time passing even though the cars were extremely low mileage due to my wife not driving much. We ended up footing the repair bills on both. Attached is a copy of the 04 LS430 transmission recall document.

My wife and I just recently bought a 2005 RX330 and it had 65000 miles on the clock. The elderly couple never took it to a Lexus dealership because it was too far. I basically took the VIN # and look it up on the "My Lexus" link on the Lexus website. It told me that 3 Recalls were still outstanding. I called my local Lexus dealership and told them that I had a vehicle that had recalls still due on it and they told me to schedule an appointment. They took care of the 3 recalls free of charge and they even gave us a full tank of gas and a car wash. Make sure you get that full tank of gas! We brought that RX running on fumes!
