Default Headlight lense color?

Hey fellas, i always wondered why the greenish tint to the headlights on our car and other "Lexi". Is it the reflector or clear lense thats colored? I noticed it back in 04 but never really enquired about it. Could it prevent discoloration or fogging? Have anyone seen these type of lenses get oxidized?

Neither reflctor or lens is colored. It's an optical delusion.

Yeah it looks green-blue depending on the lighting. Looks like the chrome headlight housing is colored differently (if you look at the upper level with your actual light vs the lower level with the signal there is a difference in the color of the chrome).

I believe the reflector and not the actual lens is colored with the green tint.

the green "reflection" is from the chrome bezel itself. It's tinted green chrome.

This makes the most sense to me. I vote this as best answer (if only this were Yahoo answers lol).

Maybe green because that is supposedly the light our eyes are tuned for.

The housing for the light or w/e is a different color, which causes the chrome that surrounds the headlights to reflect that color. The lens (I'm pretty sure) is clear just like any other car and what we see is that reflection of a different color off the chrome. My theory was that the chrome was colored differently, which didn't really make much sense. The man who I voted best ans for hypothesized that it was cause by a reflection, which makes much more sense. I never thought about this till I saw this thread, now I'm DYING TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!! Lol...not really, I still don't care that much. Enough to reply though I suppose

EDIT: Reason for why I believe the lens isn't tricking our eyes: Just look back and forth at the upper light (which houses the HID) and the lower light (turn signal light). The turn signal housing is just chrome while the HID compartment is that greenish color.

This is puzzling! Also i don't notice it on other luxury car. Only seen it on the LS430's and maybe the GS430's if im not mistaken. Wondering if its just jewelry or do it actually has a function. OK guys get to researching!

Lexus also did one other thing I have yet to see: the old RX (first gen one) had this green tint in its rear windows, like distinctly green. I thought it was an aftermarket job first time I saw one, but I guess they come like that stock. I have yet to see another car come with green tinted glass.

my car does the same from an angle it looks green. At first I thought it was on the inside of the lense. then I went out to auto zone and bought turtle wax rubbing compound and it made my lens look more clear. you just keep rubbing it in circles on your head light and it went away.

LOL, I hang out over in the 1st gen RX forum sometimes and those guys apparently HATE that ultra-reflective green tint stuff. It is one of their least favorite parts of the truck. I guess as time as worn on, the look has become very dated!
