Default New Driver's Seat

Hey all,

I had some upholstery shop here try to repad or soften my chair and it was so-so for the seat cushion.

A whole new chair assembly for a car of this caliber is normally in the $3-5k range. Installation is normally a nightmare. You shouldn't have messed with what you got. I can't understand wanting the chair softer? LS seats are softest on the market straight from the factory!! You need to rebuild what you have. It makes no sense to try to put in a new chair, plus the leather will never ever match 100% with the rest of car.

Obviously you've never driven a 2004 430LS UL like ours... Our driver's seat is hard as a rock.

I think the seats can vary a lot in a used LS. Virtually every used LS I test drove had seats that felt unique in terms of being softer or harder in the seat bottom. Seats showed quite a bit of variance in wear also. You would think they would all feel basically the same but I think the size and weight of the previous owner has a lot to do with what condition the seat is in and how it feels in the LS.

I'd take the car back to the upholstery shop and make them do it again until it feel right to you.

I am pretty sure you can't order a completely assembled seat from Lexus directly, they only sell the individual parts.

You can look up prices for all the individual parts here, there are roughly 4 to 5 main pieces, each one is $1500~$2000. Figure $10k or so if you want to buy everything.

Ahh crap that sux. Yep I agree - unfortunately you will have to find another shop to do the work or take it to Lexus. Please let us know how it turns out.

Tell him to fix it or you will see him in court. This sounds like the makings of a slam dunk win. You should get back every cent you paid him, plus he should pay the bill for a replacement or for you to bring the car to another shop. He sounds like a hack. Sue him before he goes out of business.

I've sat in many and I've never found one to be hard. Then again, I'm comparing against German built seats. I'm not quite sure what you are expecting for softness. Many people have commented to me about how ultra soft their LS seats are over the years.

Supposedly one of the biggest most complex challenges to car designers and engineers is to build a drivers seat that is functional for wide range of weight and sizes of people and is also comfortable to a huge range and number of people. The first goal is difficult, but achieving the two goals together is nearly impossible.

You can probably just order new pads. A new seat will likely run at least $5K. Seat installation is easy..just a few plugs underneath for the harnesses to run the power seats, but there's also the airbag harness you need to plug in. I've swapped seats in and out of various toyotas and hondas...all cars are pretty much the same...just 4 bolts hold the seat to the car floor. Toyota/Lexus attaches the seatbelt buckle to the body floor, while honda attaches it to the seat frame. That's the primary difference.

How many miles on the UL's with the hard seats? My 2006 has 49k and they are still soft and cushy.
