I have tried to find info about this problem on the site. The only think I found was "replace battery". I think it is more than that.
I have a 2001 LS that I love. About a month ago the tilt stopped working. I do not know if it stopped after I got the telescoping wheel to extend furthe rthan it had previously gone.
I have tried the presets and the tilt will not work.
Can someone please give me some guidance where to look?
Last year there was info on the LS400 forum that linked problems with over telescoping the column but I can't remember if the problem showed up in telescoping or both. Anyway, some people were saying don't do it.
I asked whether there was a noise, because on my LS400 the tilt stopped working, and it made a noise of a plastic gear chattering. The tilt motor was running but the gears wouldn't engage so there was no movement.
The tilt and telescoping has different small motors.
The gear strip problem is easy to fix with the instructions on the LS400 forum and it only took about 15 minutes and a garden hose washer.
If you can't hear the gear movement/motor when you hit the down button then you may have an electrical problem. If it was me I'd pop the column covers, (instructions on LS400 forum) and see what is going on such as is the tilt motor getting power when you hit the down button and is a wire pulled or such.
I hope it works out.
